David Benavidez rolled out a fiery statement after beating Kyrone Davis. With this, Benavidez improved his pro-boxing track record to 25-0. Right from the start, ‘El Bandera Roja’ looked in his true element, and he solely dictated the pace of this fight. That said, it was in round 7 when he finally went all out against his nemesis to conclude the fight.

With this win, Benavidez is now in a top spot to face any and every opponent thrown in front of him. But who should he actually face? Is he finally ready for a title shot at 168-pounds?

Jermall Charlo

Charlo is the WBC middleweight champion and a fight between him and Benavidez has been in contention for a while. However, ‘El Bandera Roja’ has a major chunk of his wins and former titles at the 168-pound weight class. That said, he’ll look to trace a shot here rather than moving down.

Jose Uzcategui

Benavidez was initially aligned to face Uzcategui. Unfortunately, as the latter tested positive for a banned substance, the fight was scrapped.

As a result, it’s unclear on how long will Uzcategui stay out of the game.

Caleb Plant

Plant, the former IBF super-middleweight champ, suffered a dreadful defeat to Canelo Alvarez last weekend. Since then, there’s no news on when and whom will Plant face on his return. On the 0ther hand, Benavidez is desperate for a title shot and he’s only looking to remain active from hereon.

That said, a fight with Caleb Plant might not be an ideal one at this stage.

At this stage, the only fight that looks viable for Benavidez is the one against the undisputed super-middleweight champ. Alvarez is expected to return to the ring around May 2022, and Benavidez has done enough to be able to get his hands on Canelo.
