David Benavidez took his game to a new stratosphere. The dominant victory over David Morrell has given him the bragging rights to stake a claim at boxing history. Outboxing the technically adroit Cuban southpaw, Benavidez and his team’s confidence has soared. Perhaps they can shrug off the ghosts of the Canelo showdown. For nearly two years, ‘The Mexican Monster’ fought, biding his time. He waited. The biggest name in boxing and his division mate, Canelo Alvarez, would eventually acknowledge and honor a fight.

But despite his mandatory status, the hopes proved delusional. Tired of the waiting game, Benavidez decided to move on. Challenges that would propel him to boxing heights awaited at 175 pounds. Later talking about his son’s prospects, he claimed that David Benavidez’s performance has put every potential opponent on notice. They’d be wary of his scorching attack. “There’s too much punishment, too many f**king punches, too many body shots, and confidence goes away,” he highlighted.
