Canelo Alvarez believes he has unfinished business with former rival Gennady Golovkin, who arguably offered one of the toughest battles to the P4P king. Following two scraps, the score stands 1-0-1 in favor of Alvarez. The first fight ended in a controversial draw, but Alvarez found his way comfortably in the re-match.
As we stand one fight away from a classic trilogy, Alvarez has given a lifeline to its possibility. Ahead of his undisputed super middleweight title fight against Caleb Plant, the Mexican star expressed interest in re-matching ‘GGG’.
When asked about the GGG trilogy by ESPN, Canelo Alvarez said, “I would love to fight right. Why not?”

“If he is open to come up on 168. I am ready always.”
Despite the willingness, as Alvarez and Golovkin are on different roads, the chances of them crossing paths are pretty bleak. This is because Gennady Golovkin has shown no special interest in moving up to the super middleweight division.

Alvarez has also indicated that he would remain at 168 or more up to 175. That being said, a move back to 160 doesn’t seem to be on the cards. Also, as Golovkin is 39, this bout needs to happen sooner rather than later and every delay could result in the trilogy not coming to fruition.

Alvarez came across a tough time in his first fight against Golovkin, which many felt could have gone in the Kazakh star’s favor. In the rematch, Alvarez looked sharp and secured Golovkin’s name in his record. Hence, a third fight against the same opponent may not bring him anything extra. Therefore, the four-division champion is pushing himself for bigger men, with the likes of light-heavyweight champions- Beterbiev and Bivol.
However, Alvarez vs Golovkin 3 can be a massive financial success. This major feature can urge both sides to come to terms and end the story.
