31-year-old Canelo Alvarez is currently on a tear, moving across multiple weight classes to cement his legacy. After sliding into the super middleweight category in December 2020, Alvarez has had four appearances so far, winning all of them to become the maiden undisputed 168 lbs champion. He reportedly spun over $100 million in 2021 and is now looking to shift to a different weight class.

That said, a potential move to the cruiserweight division, and winning a world title over there, will make him a five-weight world titlist. It will be a massive step up in his career, which promoter Don King has highly acknowledged. Alvarez was already in talks to face WBC cruiserweight champion Ilunga Makabu, and Don King revealed how Alvarez can attain greatness with this particular fight.

He has then went down the ladder of all these multiple titles. And now he is reaching for the forth [fifth] title which will make him immortalized, especially in Mexico”

Chiefly, Alvarez hasn’t announced his next move officially. However, on looking at the current scenario, it makes sense for him to remain within the ranks of 160 lbs-175 lbs. Super middleweight division (168lbs) can also pose an intriguing challenge before him, with David Benavidez already lurking over the title scene.
