Canelo Alvarez is one of the biggest names in boxing right now. The Mexican P4P superstar, who is only 30, has already conquered multiple divisions in the sport. Moreover, he is on his way to becoming an undisputed champion. Despite this, there is still more to celebrate for the unified champion.
‘Canelo’ is fresh off a stunning victory over Billy Joe Saunders at a blockbuster event in Dallas. Besides his win, Alvarez earned a lucrative pay-day. As a result, the Mexican is part of the top 15 best-paid athletes in the world in 2021.
The 56-2-1 boxer made Sportico’s list of top-earning athletes in 2021 and found himself among esteemed company. Alvarez came in at #12 with a reported salary of $61 million and a further $2 million from his endorsements. This gave him a total earning of $63 million, which was enough to see him break into the top 15.

Canelo Alvarez is the only boxer on the list: Anthony Joshua, Jake Paul, and others miss out
Boxing is one of the most lucrative sports in the world since it’s an individual sport with a global market. Therefore, you could forgive fans for expecting to see many other superstar boxers on the list. Despite this, Alvarez was the only boxer in the top 100.
The majority of the athletes on the list came from either the NFL or the NBA. As a result, boxers like Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury, Deontay Wilder all missed out on the list.

In addition, YouTuber turned boxer Jake Paul also failed to make the top 100. The internet sensation could have found himself on the list thanks to his external earnings. However, it appears even that was not enough for him to cross the $20 million mark.
The absence of boxing superstars on the list could be because of the lack of fights during the year. However, it would be no surprise to see someone else in the top 100 next year.
