Canelo Alvarez, the undisputed super middleweight champion, appears to have found his next opponent. He’ll be facing Jaime Munguia on May 4th. This comes after a public split with his former promoter, Al Haymon‘s Premier Boxing Champions (PBC). The unresolved issue seems to be the broadcaster and promoter for the fight, not the challenger himself.

Alvarez recently opted out of a three-fight deal with PBC after just one bout, citing disagreements over his next opponent. Now, a fight with Munguia appears imminent. However, as per the sources, something surprising has been revealed and has given a ray of hope for the PBC deal.

Canelo Alvarez and Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) are back in the ring…sort of. Negotiations are heating up again, with a potential two-fight deal on the horizon. They don’t seem to want to let go of ‘Cinnamon’, and are trying to cut a deal with him once again.

Canelo’s sights are set on Jaime Munguia, a commercially viable opponent. But there’s a catch: as per the sources, PBC isn’t thrilled about the second half of the proposed deal – a fight with Jermall Charlo. Charlo’s inactivity has dampened its marketability, and PBC seems hesitant to open its wallets for that matchup.

With Canelo Alvarez eyeing Jaime Munguia, Eddie Hearn threw his hat in the ring, calling Munguia a “DAZN fighter” due to their history of fights on the platform. Mainly because Munguia is co-promoted by Golden Boy Promotions and Zanfer Boxing, and fought his last 12 fights on DAZN. So, the DAZN clearly wants this fight, and they believe it’ll be a knockout for their subscriber numbers.

But PBC isn’t ready to throw in the towel. They have their plans, likely involving hefty guarantees for Canelo, something their partner, Amazon Prime, might be happy to throw around with its massive war chest. Canelo in the ring is a guaranteed crowd-puller but the real fight might be happening between the broadcasters.

DAZN, with its established relationship with Munguia, and the deep pockets of Amazon Prime backing PBC, are both vying to be the victor in this high-stakes duel. Who will land the Canelo fight? Only time will tell, but one thing’s for sure: boxing fans are in for a double dose of entertainment. What do you think about this? Tell us in the comments section.
