Nobody thought Ryan Garcia could do what he did to Devin Haney last month! His chances of winning the fight were slim to none, and the odds for the fight reflected the same. However, there was one person who didn’t give up on ‘The Flash’ Garcia. Who’s that? It’s none other than his former gym mate, Canelo Alvarez

However, that doesn’t mean that Canelo wasn’t nervous for the Victorville native, as he admitted to being in a recent interview. Canelo Alvarez is about to square off against Jaime Munguia on May 4 in Las Vegas. So, during their Grand Arrivals at MGM Grand Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, a reporter from Fight Hub TV probed Canelo about Garcia’s upset win.

When asked about the fight, Canelo calmly responded, “Nothing surprise me. I think Ryan has a lot of talent and I’m happy for him. I am really happy for him.” Having trained together during Garcia’s early career, Canelo must have been rooting for him. So, he said, “I see that fight and was so happy. I was nervous a little bit, but I was so happy for him.”

Speaking about Garcia’s potential in future bouts, Canelo confidently declared, “He can fight anyone. With that mentality, he can fight and beat anyone.” He further added, “I am surprised, but I’m not because I know the talent Ryan has. He did really good and I am happy for him.” With that said, it seems like Canelo and Garcia have now officially squashed their beef. Even before the fight, Canelo had shown support for the 25-year-old.

Canelo and Garcia have had long-standing beef after the Victorville native decided to leave his gym. More importantly, Garcia had claimed that trainer Eddy Reynoso didn’t have time for him and he wasn’t getting the kind of training he desired. However, ahead of Garcia’s fight, Canelo wished well for the rising star, revealing they were on good terms.

In a tweet, Michael Benson shared Canelo’s supportive statement for Garcia. “He’s a good kid, he’s a good person. The people around him need to help him. I feel a little sad for him because he needs to have good people around him… I just hope Ryan [can] be good because I appreciate that guy. I hope for him the very best.”

Even though Ryan Garcia has managed to do the unthinkable, Canelo Alvarez’s concern about him proves the bond between them is still going strong. However, the question is, should Garcia go back to Canelo’s gym? Or is Derrick James doing an excellent job?
