“Can You Blame Him”- Fans on Twitter Back Dillian Whyte for Not Showing Up to the Press Conference

The greatest heavyweight of this generation, Tyson Fury, is one of the biggest box office fighters. The legend is not just promoting himself, but also the sport of boxing is getting massive attention because of his hilarious moves outside the ring.

Ahead of the upcoming epic event on April 23, ‘The Gypsy King’ attended a press conference along with his promoter Frank Warren. However, his opponent, the WBC mandatory challenger Dillian Whyte, missed this mega-event. This got a lot of media attention as the fighters are supposed to attend such events to create a good hype prior to the showdown.

However, regarding this high-profile drama, co-promoter of ‘The Gypsy King‘ Bob Arum took to Twitter and praised the 33-year-old legend for setting up the tone of the media event alone. On the other hand, he slammed WBC interim champion, ‘The Villian.’

The legendary American promoter wrote, “Salute to @Tyson_Fury, who can carry a press conference, even without his opponent showing up. Shame on Dillian Whyte for disrespecting the sport.”

However, this tweet grasped the attention of boxing fans.

Putting the Blame on the purse split, Ray Verma, a boxing fan, wrote, “Well maybe you ought to pay @DillianWhyte more than the 20% he was given. Can you blame him for not turning up today? This was his chance to secure his family and all he got was 20%. I wouldn’t have accepted a fight for 20%. You’ve got him on a slave contract.”

Apart from this, many more Twitter users came up to support ‘The Villian”.

Another Twitter user stated a neutral perception and wrote, “Whyte should be there, he accepted the fight so should promote it, if he’s so worried about money he obviously doesn’t fancy his chances because if he won he could call the shots surely?”

“Press conferences are to sell a fight. Why would Whyte want to sell a fight that is of no financial benefit to him. I may be wrong but I very much doubt Wembley stadium will be anywhere near full for this fight,” another fan stated.

Leon Rose is of the perception that the purse split was disrespectful to the challenger.
