The Greg Hardy experiment is finally coming to an end. And it’s Moscow again where he might have suffered another devastating knockout, raising more questions than answering them. While he has been on an NFL field and inside a UFC Octagon, he flourished inside the boxing ring. However, if the boxing fans are to be believed, that undefeated reign has also reached its end.

Hardy, 36, took on Alexei Papin this December 13 in Moscow in a pro boxing affair. Instead of making a strong impact, his opponent found loopholes in his game plan. But what exactly happened in the fight? How did he lose his undefeated record in boxing?

Greg Hardy takes a comical tumble

The fight appeared to be a lopsided contest from the first round, where Papin appeared in more control. But it happened in the third round, where Papin caught Hardy with a barrage of hooks to the head. It was a left hook that did it. The left hook made him wobble on his feet, and he froze for a second before the fans saw him hitting the canvas with his back on the ropes.

This loss slumped him to a 3-1 record, and he might have a lot of rethinking to do before he takes another fight and pursues a boxing career. But the clip of him falling comically on his back after getting knocked out made the rounds on the internet, and fans flooded the comment section of one such post to share their candid opinions of the same.

Hardy hit with a reality check

A fan wondered how many times he has witnessed Hardy getting knocked out. They said, “How manny times he been KOd? I swear every time I see him he 😴.” Hardy transitioned to MMA after his stint with the AFL’s Dallas Cowboys and mustered a mixed record of 7-5. All of his last three UFC fights ended in KO losses.

A user drew parallels with Johnny Walker, a UFC light heavyweight fighter. They declared, “Johnny walker vs Greg hardy for da undisputed glass chin championship.” There are uncanny similarities between Walker’s loss to Jamahal Hill and Hardy’s loss to Papin, as both dropped flat with their backs on the steel cage and boxing ropes, respectively, in a free fall.

Someone campaigned for Hardy’s retirement. They stated, “He needs to retire bro.” Hardy had a failed attempt at BKFC after a mixed UFC stint, where his contract was not renewed. Now, a loss in boxing might open another exit door for him.

A comment highlighted Hardy’s boxing style shortcomings. The comment read, “Bro he never covers his face.” Hardy had a low guard, which made him susceptible to heavy blows and led to him getting knocked out.

A fan pointed out Hardy never had a good head combination. They commented, “From football to boxing not really a good head combination.” It reflected his struggles with his head movements when he was at the defensive end position in the NFL. It didn’t change when he transitioned to boxing either according to the fan.
