His Excellency Turki Alalshikh has been a dream match-making machine so far. With fights like Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury, Dmitry Bivol vs. Artur Beterbiev, and Anthony Joshua vs. Daniel Dubois, he has given boxing fans some absolute spectacles. Bringing together rival promoters, putting together matchups between fighters who have been avoiding each other, and bringing down pay-per-view costs for viewers, the Saudi Royal has been a boon for boxing fans.
The best thing is that His Excellency has no plans to stop and wants to make even bigger fights in 2025. Talking about his plans for the upcoming year, His Excellency recently discussed seeing one of his dream fights between Tyson Fury and former unified heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko on Ariel Helwani and Ade Oladipo’s show on DAZN Boxing’s YouTube channel. However, fans did not receive the news well as they mounted against the promoter’s desire to see this match.

On the show, HE Turki Alalshikh revealed that he would like to see Klitschko get a chance to become the oldest heavyweight champion in history beating the long-time record held by Big George. George Foreman currently holds the record for the oldest heavyweight champion in history when he defeated Michael Moorer in 1994 to become a champion at the age of 45. With Klitschko turning 49 in March, already holding several records to his name, will have the perfect opportunity, if Tyson Fury too accepts the matchup.

Alalshikh stated, “I am dreaming of seeing this fight to give a chance if he accepts, to give Klitschko to be the oldest heavyweight champion ever. To give him a chance. This is perfect.” However, the matchmaker ensured that the fight would only happen if Fury won against Oleksandr Usyk in their rematch.
“Of course, Wladimir won’t fight Usyk if he wins. They’re two heroes from Ukraine and will not face each other,” stated His Excellency, denying any chance of two Ukrainians facing each other. Interestingly, Wladimir Klitschko had traveled to Riyadh in May to support his compatriot when Usyk fought Fury for the undisputed title.
The Gypsy King faced the Zhangiztobe native back in 2015 when he was just 27 years old. He completely outboxed the 1996 Atlanta Olympics Gold Medalist and won via a unanimous decision. However, Fury never gave Klitschko a rematch due to his taking a sabbatical following his mental health spiral and stayed out of the sport until 2018.
On the other hand, Klitschko only fought once after his loss to Fury against AJ in 2017 and lost via a TKO. HE Turki Alalshikh thinks it would be the perfect opportunity to get that rematch as the Ukrainian is eyeing the world record. However, fans are largely opposed to the idea of another retired boxer returning to receive a direct title shot. They made their stance clear by flooding the comment section of IFL TV Boxing’s Instagram post with their objections.
Fans plead: Let him be
A fan wrote, “Why? Fury took an 11-year undefeated Klitschko to a one-sided unanimous decision on the scorecards (115–112, 116–111, 115–112). The result was conclusive,” stating that there is no valid reason for a rematch. Tyson Fury’s win in 2015 was a major turning point in the heavyweight division as it stopped Klitschko’s 4,382 day-reign as a heavyweight champion where he defended his titles 18 times successfully.
Another fan wrote, “More interested in Fury vs AJ or Dubois. Let’s get all the active top level fighting each other rather than dragging people out of retirement who haven’t fought in years,” stating that there are far more appealing matches than this. At this point, Tyson Fury stands at the same crossroads where Klitschko stood against him in 2015. A fight against the likes of Daniel Dubois will not only get him a better payday but will also add to his legacy.

Another fan having the same idea wrote, “If fury losses then fair enough but y should he get to fight the champ after being out this long. Pointless if u ask me. Surely winner of this gets the winner of the Parker v DD? That’s got to make more sense and tonnes more cash,” stating that the Ukrainian does not deserve a title opportunity at the moment. According to him, the winner of the December 21 fight should face the winner between Joseph Parker and Daniel Dubois for the undisputed Heavyweight championship.
Another fan wrote, “Just when I started to like him aswell ! No tukri please no , klitchko had nothing to prove stay retired.” According to the user, stated that His Excellency has always made stellar matches till now and this will be his first wrong move.
Another fan, tired of seeing retired boxers coming back, wrote, “No. Let retired fighters rest man.” According to him, Klitschko, retired for almost a decade, should not come and fight against an active boxer. It not only affects the quality of the card but also makes for a far less intriguing watch.
