The 140lbs division is in a chaotic phase right now and no two people have created more chaos than Devin Haney and Teofimo Lopez. While Haney is suing Ryan Garcia over a doping issue, Lopez is busy battling his own promotion, Top Rank. Not long ago, reports suggested that Haney and Lopez were in discussion to face each other.
Even Top Rank honcho Bob Arum revealed that they had offered a contract to 31-0 for a fight. However, it became evident that the San Francisco native rejected the $2.4 million offer, claiming it was too low. Haney and Lopez soon got into a back-and-forth on social media and unsurprisingly, like always, Haney Sr. has now jumped into the controversy. He even called out Bob Arum for his “lies”.

Bob Arum lied, claims Bill Haney
Recently, in a conversation with FightHubTV, Arum revealed that Top Rank “offered Haney a fight. Haney didn’t want it, so we will find the big fight for Teofimo,” claiming that it was Devin Haney who rejected the offer.

However, following that, in a conversation with Marcos Villegas, Bill Haney claimed Arum’s statement was a lie. He declared, “We know how vindictive promoters can be and we know how they can lie. Bob Arum was not 100% truthful,” before revealing that it was in fact His Excellency Turki Alalshikh who offered to make this fight.
“Turki Alalshikh put a fight on the table for Devin and Teofimo Lopez at Riyadh season. I think that the fight that Turki put on the table was an opportunity where there wouldn’t be any squams or any flat towards either team. It was a fair opportunity for us,” Bill Haney added.
He further referred to the failing state of Top Rank and how the promotional company could not sell out any arena in recent years. According to Devin Haney’s father, Bob Arum wanted a fight on his terms, “where you would be the A-side and we would be the B-side was an insult.” Haney Sr further revealed that Devin Haney and his team had accepted the offer by HE Turki Alalshikh. However, it was Arum and Lopez who rejected the offer, and now he is not telling the whole truth.
Bill Haney was not done as he even dragged in Teofimo Lopez and challenged the 27-year-old to first submit himself to a doping test.

Haney Sr. took this opportunity to issue a challenge to Lopez and wrote, “If it’s REAL beef, @TeofimoLopez stop barking and step up. Join VADA and show the world you’re clean and ready to fight @RealDevinHaney. No excuses. No shortcuts. Champions prove they’re the best,” urging the WBO super lightweight champion to submit himself to VADA’s random testing.
This demand is likely due to the loss that ‘The Dream’ suffered against Ryan Garcia, where the latter tested positive for PEDs. Following that fight, Haney enrolled in year-round VADA testing. Furthermore, it does not look like Lopez is shying away from the challenge either.
Teofimo Lopez took to his ‘X’ account and asked VADA about the process of getting himself tested. He wrote, “Hi, @wada_ama; how could I (Teofimo) get in contact to do drug testing as a Professional World Boxing Champion that I AM.? #Boxing needs help! URGENT 🚨.”
