Teofimo Lopez is making a leap of faith, and he is willing to make a jump to a higher division. Why? The American fighter wants to test himself against the best that boxing has to offer. And he has set his sights on Terence Crawford. Instead, he could take on Jaron Ennis next. How did we land here?

Lopez, 27, has ignited a feud with Crawford, 37, and called him out multiple times. However, the latter set some unexpected demands—to reach him, he must go through Israil Madrimov first. ‘Bud’ had declared, “You fight and beat Israil Madrimov next, I’ll whoop your a-s next, bet?” It seems the tables have turned. ‘The Takeover’ is now in talks to make a move against ‘Boots’ next year. It has pushed fans to make a similar demand about Crawford, at 41-0, who could be rethinking his options now.

Terence Crawford given a taste of his medicine

ShowBizz The Adult, a popular boxing commentator, addressed the same situation in a clip he shared on his social media. He believed if Lopez, at 21-1, had to earn his way to fight Crawford, the latter should take a similar route to make his dream fight with Canelo Alvarez happen. The boxing commentator pitched two names—Jaime Munguia and Caleb Plant.

ShowBizz The Adult said, “If he is willing to call out Terrence ‘Bud’ Crawford, he should be willing to fight ‘Boots’. And he’s doing it, which, if Terence Crawford is willing to fight Canelo Alvarez, he should be willing to take on Jaime Munguia or Caleb Plant, or some at 168. Especially when Terrence ‘Bud’ Crawford told Teofimo Lopez to fight Madrimov. Before fight him, or some.”

But who should Crawford fight? These comments sparked a debate in the comment section of the clip, and most of them seemed to have favored Plant’s name over the others.

What’s your perspective on:

Should Terence Crawford face Caleb Plant to prove he's still the best, or is it too risky?

Fans play matchmakers for Crawford vs. Plant

A fan believed Plant could hurt Crawford in the super middleweight division. They stated, “Plant hurts Crawford at 168.” Plant is the former IBF super middleweight champion but boasts enough power behind his punches to secure a KO win. What’s more? He has won 4 of his last 5 fights via knockouts.

A user also shared similar views. They announced, “Plant washes Crawford.” Crawford showed some trouble at 154 when he fought Madrimov in a tactical matchup, and moving up 2 more divisions could pose more problems for Crawford at 37 years old.

Someone explained the fight could be a mouthwatering contest. They wrote, “Bud vs plant would be a good fight.” While Plant is a power puncher, Crawford is your typical technically skilled operator. It could give fans a good stylistic matchup.

A comment suggested the Plant fight could be troublesome for Crawford. The comment read, “Agreed Bud should fight Plant. That’s a true test of his skills.” Crawford would have to adjust to the towering height of Plant, along with this power. He also has to see how adding more mass to his frame affects his style.

Lastly, a fan pointed out Crawford’s age and the potential coming decline. They penned, “Crawford is about done. Age wise. Father is undefeated & will remain that way. Crawford has 1 maybe 2 good years left. And when loses the excuse will be his age.” The Omaha native’s activity has also reduced in the last couple of years, and many have wondered whether he is a fight or two removed from his retirement.

What do you make of this probable fight between Terence Crawford and Caleb Plant? Who do you think will leave the arena with a win?
