From Don King to Bob Arum to Oscar De La Hoya, boxing has some of the best promoters in the world of sports. Among these giants, however, Eddie Hearn is still one of the most well-recognized entities in the world of boxing. His company Matchroom Boxing boasts a seasoned roster of world champions. However, there is one fighter with whom he shares a very special bond.
Anthony Joshua began his professional debut with Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing back in 2013. Hearn is directly responsible for many of Joshua’s most important fights in his career. As good as he is, there is still one fight that has eluded Joshua. Hearn, for his part, has been trying to get him the fight that will prove once and for all that AJ is the best. However, recent developments have again cast a shadow over its possibility.
Eddie Hearn had been trying to get Tyson Fury to fight AJ ever since the former defeated Deontay Wilder back in 2020. However, because of IBF and WBO’s mandatory challenge clause, AJ was forced to face Kubrat Pulev and Oleksandr Usyk instead. Meanwhile, the ‘Gypsy King’ went on to fight Deontay Wilder, winning the match again. Unfortunately for AJ, he ended up losing the title fight to Oleksandr Usyk twice, which cost him all his titles. Recently, however, Deontay Wilder has agreed to fight AJ. The match has also been slated for January. However, no venue or host has yet been finalized. With ‘the Bronze Bomber’ agreeing to a fight, only one fight remains between AJ and his legacy.

The Legacy of Anthony Joshua
In a recent interview with talkSPORT Boxing, Eddie Hearn revealed what the future holds for both him and Joshua. Speaking at the sidelines of a charity event, he said, “I never like to put a timescale on his career, but he did the other day when he said, ‘You know, I won’t be boxing in three [or] five years’ time.’” With AJ hinting that he is ready to hang up his gloves in a few years, Hearn will have to find a way to get him a fight with both Wilder and Fury very soon.
Hearn has reiterated that AJ wants to fight both Wilder and Fury despite what many think. When asked how he thinks the fights would pan out, He replied, “I am Anthony Joshua’s number one fan. In my head, call me deluded, he’s going to knock out Deontay Wilder, and then he’s going to knock out Tyson Fury.“
However, a possible fight with Fury still seems like a distant dream with no contracts or deals in place. But Hearn is positive that the fight may still happen and that AJ will win. “Like I said, call me deluded, whatever you want, I don’t care what you call me! I see it. We have the vision for that,” Hearn reiterated.

In an exciting new development, the WBC only a few hours ago, placed Wilder and Joshua as their No.1 and No.2 ranked players. This means that if Tyson Fury fails to fight the winner of their match, he can be stripped of his WBC championship. This means that a fight between AJ and Fury is still a possibility, provided that he defeats Wilder in January.

Hearn, as a promoter, is trying his best to see this through. If all goes well for him, AJ might get a shot at the WBC championship when he goes up against Tyson Fury. As his promoter at least, Eddie Hearn is doing everything he can to see it through and who knows, he just might succeed.
