The California Commission has put Alexander Flores’ disclosed paycheck of $80,000 on hold. The decision has come after questionable first-round KO loss over Luis Ortiz this past Saturday inside Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

‘King Kong’ picked up a scintillating first-round KO win over journeyman Alexander Flores’ with a right hook to the body. However, slow-motion revealed that the shot wasn’t clean, and raised questions as to whether Flores decided to give up for an easy way out.

Luis Ortiz was paid his $250,000 purse, while Flores’ will have to wait till the investigation is over. The California State Athletic Commission took the decision within 15 minutes after the conclusion of the bout. CSAC Executive Director Andy Foster revealed that an investigation is underway and the final decision will be taken after a hearing.

It might be too soon to say that Flores faked the knockout to get an easy pay-out. However, this is not something new in boxing. In the past, there have been several examples where similar incidents have taken place. One will have to wait for the final decision before coming to any conclusion.

Alexander Flores has lost two of his last three bouts inside the ring via KO. However, both the losses have come against elite competition in the form of Luis Ortiz and Joseph Parker.

Until the final decision is out, Flores it would be wrong to come to any conclusions. The knockout punch didn’t land clean on his mid-section is all fans can conclude as of now.

Prior damage could well be the reason why Flores went down, in the way he did against a very dangerous Luis Ortiz. Boxing is a tough sport, and there’s every reason to believe that the initial barrage of punches may have caused the fight-ending damage.

Meanwhile, the former two-time title contender ‘King Kong’ returned to winning ways after a brutal KO loss to Deontay Wilder. The Cuban boxer is 41 and is showing no signs of slowing down.
