After defending his WBC, WBA, and the Ring belts against Avni Yildirim and Billy Joe Saunders, Canelo Alvarez is now short of one belt to cement himself as the undisputed Super Middleweight champion of the world. In order to achieve this goal, Alvarez now has his sights set on Caleb Plant, who holds the IBF 168 lbs title.
Caleb Plant recently shared a tweet highlighting Eddie Hearn and Eddy Reynoso’s quotes about the possibility of Canelo Alvarez fighting other champions at adjacent divisions like light-heavyweight or middleweight. He captioned these quotes by asking fans to not trust such headlines.
In an interview with Seconds Out, Plant asked for $10 million or “somewhere around there” for the Canelo Alvarez fight. The 168 lbs IBF champion is looking to get his due as he believes that even though his fanbase is not as big as Canelo’s, he can still gather more views than Billy Joe Saunders and Callum Smith.

“That [$10 million] number sounds right, or somewhere around there,” Plant told Seconds Out. “I’m not looking to price myself out of a fight that I want and a fight that I know in my heart that I can win. But I also don’t want to get anything less than what I would be owed,” said Caleb Plant.
Eddie Hearn agreed Caleb Plant holds “great leverage” over Canelo Alvarez as he is the last piece of the undisputed super-middleweight champion puzzle.

“He’s a good fighter; he deserves to be paid very well for this fight. I’m sure he will be. Hopefully, it’s about more than just money. Hopefully, he believes he can win and become undisputed,” said Eddie Hearn in an interview with the Ring.
Who else can Canelo Alvarez fight?
Caleb Plant seems to hold the key to Canelo Alvarez’s goal of becoming the 168 lbs undisputed champion. He might use this as leverage to secure an even bigger payday than Sergey Kovalev’s $12 million. However, this can also result in Plant losing the opportunity altogether. With Alvarez holding a record of 56-1-2, getting new opponents will hardly be a problem for him.

With Alvarez coming off a clean victory against Billy Joe Saunders at 168 lbs, he would naturally want to seal the division with the final IBF belt.
If negotiations don’t pan out, Alvarez also has the option of fighting four other boxers at adjacent weight classes; fighters like David Benavidez (SMW), Artur Beterbiev (LHW), Dmitry Bivol (LHW), and Jermall Charlo (MW/LMW) have shown interest as well.
