The build-up to the Trevor McCumby vs Caleb Plant fight, on the undercard of the Canelo Alvarez vs Edgar Berlanga main event, on September 14, is turning out to be quite heated. Both boxers have been digging into each other’s past to talk about the lowest moments in their professional career. McCumby has accused the former IBF super-middleweight champion of “quitting” against Canelo Alvarez during their showdown in 2021. Meanwhile, Sweethands, who takes immense pride in his boxing talent and indomitable courage, isn’t going to let the insult slide.
In his latest attack on 31-year-old Trevor McCumby, the Tennessee native decided to bring up sole blotch in McCumby’s boxing career. Reportedly, in 2016, the fight between Trevor McCumby and Donovan George was changed to a “no-contest” after the former’s urine tests revealed the presence of testosterone and testosterone metabolics. These substances are banned by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Agency (VADA) and the Nevada State Athletic Commission. What’s more? McCumby violated the rules by receiving a 50ml IV infusion over a six-hour period without notifying the commission. For these infractions, the Nevada Commission handed McCumby an 18-month suspension and fined $3,750.
On that note, sharing an article listing McCumby’s wrongdoing in the 2016 doping scandal on Instagram, Caleb Plant noted in his caption, “You claim it was a tainted supplement but you had steroids, metabolic steroids and a whole IV in a tainted supplement?” Initially, the Yorkville, Illinois native denied using any performance-enhancing drugs, but later attributed the positive drug test results to ‘tainted supplements’. Caleb Plant firmly dismissed this excuse as a lie. Furthermore, Plant also accused McCumby of not being consistent about how many times he became the “national champion”, in his interviews with various news outlets.

“So I did some research and not only are you lying about that but you say your a 7x national champion in some interviews, a 10x national champion in other interviews and your linked in says your a 8x national champ……..and all by the age of 17yrs old…,” Plant highlighted in his post.
The former super-middleweight champion ended his message to Trevor McCumby on a cautionary note —”the gig is up, enough with the lies…. Remember the ring always reveals the truth. Your time is ticking.”
