Post the 2014 debut, it took five years for the Tennessean Caleb Plant to claim his first world title. Knocking down the Venezuelan Jose Uzcategui twice, Plant convinced the judges that he was the better boxer that day. An epic clash followed the third successful title defense in January 2021. Unfortunately, it was against one of the modern era’s most outstanding ring technicians, Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez. The fight for deciding Super Middleweight’s first undisputed champion ended with an eleventh-round technical knockout defeat for the American boxer.

It took nearly a year for the thirty-year-old, Ashland city-born ‘Sweethands’ to stage a comeback. The fight against former champion Anthony Dirrell on October 15 last year shocked the world. Plant knocked the airs out of Dirrell in the ninth round. No wonder it found a place as one of the runners-up in ringtv.com’s 2022 knockout of the year list.

Caleb Plant has been through severe trials and tribulations in his personal life. Thus, he proved that he has what it takes for a boxer to join the ranks of elite fighters. By November, news came that he might face former WBC Super Middleweight champion David Benavidez in 2023. After Canelo Alvarez, the Super Middleweight division has Benavidez and Plant ruling the roost. However, the undisputed champion is yet to recover from hand injuries. Hence it is evident that the two will have to settle the question of a possible and eventual challenger to Canelo upon his return.

By January end of this year, confirmation on the Benavidez and Plant fight came about. It will occur on March 25 at Nevada’s MGM Grand Arena. A press conference that followed in February gained notoriety for the bitter and acrimonious exchange between the two boxers.

Yesterday FightHype.com uploaded an interview with Caleb Plant on YouTube. It started with boxing journalist Sean Zittel asking for Plant’s comments about Benavidez foretelling that their fight would be wrapped up “in six rounds.”

Big brother barely came to the rescue…

Caleb Plant responded calmly, “It sounds good. You know he’s supposed to say that, you know, that sounds good for the cameras….” He explained whatever David Benavidez said and did during the press conference was pure show-off, mere playing to the gallery stuff. ‘Sweethands’ added that deep down, he was aware that the Arizonan wouldn’t be able to do anything more. He then said that while inside a gym, Plant punched his younger brother, Jose Benavidez Jr. But despite being present, David Benavidez barely intervened.

I knew he wasn’t gonna do because when I popped Jose Jr in the face in the gym….and what David do when I popped his brother in his face? Nothing; he stood there and looked at me like a big fat p***y. And what Jose Jr. do nothing, just stood there and looked at me, and then the next day, the gym order made him come over and apologize and say they’re sorry for acting like a fool.He said.

Roughly a month ago, FightHype.com uploaded leaked footage of the fight. It involved Jose Benavidez Jr., Caleb Plant, and David Benavidez. Watched by over 100k boxing followers, the altercation is reported to be the cause of the much-publicized animosity between the two former champions.
