Last month, former Interim WBC heavyweight champion, Dillian Whyte expressed his desire to complete his trilogy against Derek Chisora on his comeback. ‘The Body Snatcher’ had tested positive for steroids ahead of his fight against Anthony Joshua in August 2023. Then earlier this year, in March, the Texas Boxing Commission cleared him of any wrongdoing.
Two weeks later, the Port Antonio native made his comeback and defeated Christian Hammer in a one-sided fight. Now he is ready to enter his second fight since the positive test on December 15 against Ebenezer Tetteh in Gibraltar. According to Whyte, this would be his last warm-up fight and he is ready to compete against serious competition.
The 30-3 boxer has made it clear that he would have liked to fight ‘War’ and complete their trilogy. However, things stumbled when Chisora decided to fight Otto Wallin in February, in probably his last fight. While talking to talkSPORT, Dillian Whyte made it clear that he did not like the fight and was furious at Chisora for ditching the trilogy for a fight with the Swede..

Dillian Whyte thinks Chisora is “institutionalized”
During the interview, Adam Catterall of talkSPORT asked Dillian Whyte whether Chisora even considered him for a fight before deciding on Otto Wallin for his February 8 showdown in Manchester. The British heavyweight got visibly annoyed and said, “The problem with Derek he’s a bit institutionalized. I bet it’s probably an understatement. He’s very institutionalized,” stating how rigid and inflexible Chisora is.

According to Dillian Whyte, “You try and speak to him, you try and make sense to him and Derek doesn’t see sense where sense is.” For the Jamaica native, Chisora choosing to fight Wallin instead of him does not make sense as the ‘War’ will most probably lose the match.
“Fighting Otto Wallin, it’s a it’s a no-no. It’s a lose-lose fight for him because Otto Wallin, he’s tricky. He’s awkward,” explained Whyte. He further added that there will be no hype for the fight and Wallin “brings no value.” According to Whyte, fighting Wallin, who is just coming off a knockout loss to Anthony Joshua, is something that doesn’t make much sense.
Whyte was clearly furious with the way Chisora is going forward in his career. He explained how the two of them would have had the perfect trilogy set up that would have interested fans.

Is Derek Chisora letting the trilogy slip away?
Dillian Whyte stated, “Me and him we got history,” talking about their previous two fights. He further mentioned that fans would love to see this match and “we sell up venues.” The 36-year-old stated even though he fights in a few weeks, he would have been ready to fight Chisora in February. “Me and him could have been fighting Manchester in February. I could have still fought this guy here and be ready to fight him in February,” stated Whyte.
This announcement by the 40-year-old hit Whyte like a betrayal. He stated, “You know, what Derek thinks and what’s a reality, is two different things,” while talking about how this fight might backfire on ‘War.’
With Chisora nearing retirement, Whyte thinks that their fight would have been a perfect send-off. The duo has had two of the most hard-hitting heavyweight fights of the past few years. Both times, Dillian Whyte emerged victorious.

However, the matches always stole the show and fans wanted to see more. But the Mbare native choosing the Swedish opponent as his probably last opponent has hurt Whyte. The worst thing is that the Otto Wallin vs. Derek Chisora fight will happen in the same venue where these two first fought. Talk about a snub, huh?
