Top Rank Boxing have confirmed their final main event for the year. After a successful post COVID-19 period, there was speculation that Shakur Stevenson would headline a star-studded card to finish the year off. This has now been confirmed.

The undefeated 23-year-old will take on Toka Kahn Clary on December 12 at the MGM Grand. The fight will be at junior lightweight rather than Stevenson’s previous weight class, featherweight.

Top Rank announced the fight during the Terence Crawford vs Kell Brook event and subsequently on their social media. This will be Stevenson’s first fight at junior lightweight, and the company is predicting big things for the star.

He will have his work cut out for him against an experienced Toka Kahn Clary, who has a record of 28-2-0 and is much more experienced when compared to Stevenson’s record of 14-0-0.

However, this is the opportunity Shakur Stevenson was longing for. Stevenson has previously spoken about his desire to rule the lighter weight categories; and this will provide him the perfect stage to do so. The move to another weight class will help fans find out whether Stevenson is the real deal or just another hype job.

How will Shakur Stevenson fair against Toka Kahn Clary

Despite it being a tougher test, Stevenson will still go into the fight as the favorite. There are high expectations for the 23-year-old among his promoters. It will be interesting to see how he will approach the fight given that he will have a four-and-a-half-inch reach disadvantage. However, when you consider his speed and movement, you get an idea as to how he thinks he can beat the 28-year-old.

This fight will still get some criticism for being a main event fight. It is not a title fight and neither fighters are global stars. Top Rank is aiming to put Stevenson on the global stage with the main event; however, fans could very well question this move and will wonder if there is another big-name fighter to be the co-main event.

That being said, fans will most certainly catch the fight, as it will be one of the final offerings for 2020. Hence, it appears as though Shakur Stevenson has the perfect opportunity to announce himself to the world.
