In fact, with the multiple viewing options, the bout is set to be one of the biggest face-offs this year.

How did Canelo Alvarez land a bout with Dmitry Bivol?

Canelo Alvarez was supposed to face Congolese- South African boxer Ilunga Makabu for the WBC cruiserweight title in May. Unfortunately, Alvarez’s cruiserweight debut did not take place as Makabu had to fight a mandatory title defense rematch against Thabiso Mchunu.

In February 2022, Alvarez signed a multi-fight deal with Matchroom Boxing and DAZN. He was rumored to fight many opponents with the likes of Jermall Charlo and Gennady Golovkin floated as potential challengers. Eventually, the first fight was his return to the light heavyweight division to face the formidable and undefeated WBA (Super) champion Dmitry Bivol.

Meanwhile, Alvarez expressed his interest in facing Bivol. In an interview with TMZ, when speaking about Bivol, he said, “He’s a really good boxer. He’s a solid champion at 175. It’s a danger fight. I like it, I love that kind of challenge. I really like it.”

Alvarez further added, “I like the idea to be undisputed at 175. That’s what I like, but you never know.”
