Moments ago, giving way to speculations, it was announced that Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez has inked a deal with the country’s leading media conglomerate, TV Azteca. The deal comes amidst heavy speculation amok regarding the cancellation of his deal with the PBC and who the undisputed Super middleweight would fight next.
The company, the second biggest of its nature in Mexico, on X, announced that this contract would be a bridge between him and his home country. Azteca wrote, “Saúl Álvarez confirmed his contract with TV Azteca in which he will be a new link of the best pound for pound with what always was and will be his home [Translated from Spanish to English].”
His association with TV Azteca is not entirely new. He has been associated with the network since 2015, after his former promoter, Golden Boy Promotions signed a deal to broadcast his fights exclusively in Mexico. This extension of his relationship with the conglomerate marks his efforts to keep his fights free of cost for the public to view in his home country. In an interview with adn40, a channel operated by TV Azteca, he noted that he had received multiple offers from US networks to take his fights to Mexico on PPV. He stated that he turned down such a deal.

There seems to be no update on the cancellation of his $100 million deal with the PBC. Earlier speculations were rife that he would be parting ways with the PBC over alleged financial issues. If this turns out to be true, it would put his potential fight with Jermall Charlo on the backburner since he is represented by Al Haymon’s PBC.
The update comes at a very crucial time for the 33-year-old, orthodox fighter. It was expected that he would provide an update on his next fight, and if his next opponent would be Tijuana’s Jaime Munguia. To meet these expectations, Canelo came up with answers to both these burning questions. Loud and clear.
When will Canelo Alvarez fight next? And against whom?
Since his Jermell Charlo fight last year, the fighter has remained mum on his future plans in the ring. Fight Hub Marcos, based on the interview with adn40, reported that Alvarez does not intend to fight Mungia next. Alvarez also revealed that his next fight would indeed be on the 4th of May in Las Vegas against an American opponent. However, further revelation on the opponent will be revealed in the coming few weeks.
