Several months of layoff ended on Friday, when the reigning unified WBA, IBF, WBO, and IBO heavyweight champion, Oleksandr Usyk took to Instagram and dropped a video announcing his return to boxing.

Usyk has now resumed his boxing practice for the most-awaited showdown of heavyweight division against former British unified titleholder Anthony Joshua.

Though he used his native language to give a big update, Usyk added the gist of the video in the caption.

He wrote, “I decided to start preparing for a rematch with Anthony Joshua, a large number of my friends support me, all the rest of the good and peace, Thank God for everything.”

Interestingly, the news of the Ukrainian’s return set the internet on fire. As it clarified, the rematch is certain in the coming months. However, the champion was ready for the rematch ever since he clinched the remarkable victory over the star heavyweight in the first clash.

Labeled as ‘The Perfect Storm’, the clash between then unified champion Anthony Joshua and WBO mandatory challenger, Oleksandr Usyk, landed on September 25, 2021, at the jam-packed Tottenham Hotspur arena in London.

Standing at stature disadvantage, the former undisputed cruiserweight champion entered the ring as a heavy underdog. But with the first bell, things went opposite to the expectation.

The sharp footwork and the hard left hand of the southpaw challenger began creating problems for the champion. Though there were no knockdowns, the dominance of the challenger on the scorecard of the judges assisted him in dethroning the two-time heavyweight superstar Anthony Joshua.

‘The Cat’ edged out Joshua to land one of the biggest upsets in boxing. However, because of the rematch contract, the duo is finally going to settle all scores in the upcoming fight, which is certain, as the Ukrainian himself has given an update about his much-awaited return.
