Is Fabio Wardley the one to finally retire Deontay Wilder, or does Wilder have one last fight?

Fabio Wardley is ready to climb to the heavyweight division’s top and is now on a hunt for a perfect opponent to do it. He has turned in a performance against Frazer Clarke that has inched him closer to his ambitions. But he might need one more name to strike off his hit list due to the division’s dynamics. Amid the hunt, Deontay Wilder‘s name has been thrown, which didn’t sit well with the fans.

Notably, Wardley, 29, is coming off a remarkable first-round knockout of Clarke, 33, and has now pushed his name to fight for the title next. However, with the likes of Daniel Dubois standing ahead of him in the queue and a rematch between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury scheduled, he might have to wait for long. So, SkySports’ Toe2Toe panel threw in a name they want to see next fighting Wardley, ‘The Bronze Bomber.’

In a recent podcast episode, Gary Logan and Andy Scott discussed Wardley’s fight with Clarke, where the British boxer received high praise. Logan said, “He [Fabio Wardley] got no regard for what he has done in amateurs… He just knows- ‘if me and you ever fight, I got a chance’.” Scott then chimed in and expressed his desire to see Wardley fight Wilder.

He continued, “Just hear my explanation. I don’t think that Wilder got much left and you put it on your CV and it’s a big name. And I do think that only big danger from Wilder is his right hand and he seems to pull away. I think he is at end now.” But the fans didn’t like the idea, as they turned to the comment section and blasted the floated match.

A user believed the situation would have been different if the fight had happened 6 years back. They wrote, “Why now? Put him 6 years ago and then see.” Wilder was an undefeated boxer back in 2018, who had won all but one fight with a knockout.

Someone believed Wilder’s career was over when they completed the trilogy with Fury in 2021. They noted, “Wilder retired three fights ago.” Since the completion of the Fury trilogy, the American fighter has only won one fight against Robert Helenius and is currently on a two-fight loss streak.

A comment theorized that Wardley might end Wilder’s career. The comment read, “Ahhh @FabioWardley just end his career 😂.” Wilder doesn’t have any fight coming as of now, and if he racks up another loss on his record, he might call it quits.

Lastly, a fan shielded Wilder and took his side. They pointed out, “Yall must hate Deontay Wilder.” Wilder is known for his dangerous right hand, which helped him flatline his opponents. But with the growing age, his tools have diminished, affecting his agility and his ability to put on a show. It remains to be seen when he returns and against whom.
