Much to every fan and follower’s elation, Queensbury Promotions’ Frank Warren announced that a fight between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk would take place on the last Saturday of April. The venue that frequently came up in talks was Saudi Arabia. Reigning WBC champion Tyson Fury last year returned from retirement to defend his title against Derek Chisora. Hence, it was high time for answers to the long-pending questions about the undisputed Heavyweight champion to be made available by 2023.

But before he stepped into the ring to face Chisora, ‘The Gypsy King’s’ name against former Heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua made rounds. However, the much-anticipated fight caved during the negotiations. So naturally, fans went euphoric when the discussions on a unification fight with the Ukrainian Usyk reached the latest stage from when it took up.

However, there might be a vast many who, given past experiences, might still keep their fingers crossed, just in case. Especially the kind of news that trickled in today may once again cast a pall of gloom over a fight every boxing fanatic wants to see.

TalkSPORT’s boxing editor Michael Benson shared a tweet that seems to have been sourced from MailOnline Sport. It said, “Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk for the undisputed heavyweight world titles is reportedly now being targeted to take place at Wembley Stadium on April 29. It’s claimed that Fury will likely fight April 29 at Wembley even if Usyk deal can’t be done. [According to @MailSport]”

Perhaps, the second sentence played the spoilsport for most with its doubtful tone, “…if Usyk deal can’t be done.” As always, finding themselves between hope and despair, fans and followers couldn’t help but speak out on what they felt.

Fans question ‘The Gyspy King’

Taken aback by the post, @CiaranMusic asked why Tyson Fury backs down whenever he faces a powerful foe.

@MMANightmareS wondered whether there’s an attempt from the Fury camp to portray Usyk as the spoilsport. The latter is the one responsible for the negotiations’ collapse.

@Fordyas, on a somber note, highlighted Oleksandr Usyk is highly skillful and has the maximum number of championship belts. However, he should understand and respect the kind of crowd-pulling power ‘The Gypsy King’ wields.

@NathOdell reflected if the entire chain of events may again end in Fury fighting a match against a well-known foe. Possibly a rematch with Dillian Whyte?

@LFC_TH4 berating the whole incident, asked who Fury would fight next. Undoubtedly with the pun mentioned that the only boxer Fury matches in terms of boxing prowess is Jake Paul.

@EZEmanZion said people should not watch matches in instances like these, where they have been arranged. If fans are desirous of watching bouts they want to see, then they need to stop buying tickets for matches set at the last minute, for sake.

@Bofers2142 calling Tyson Fury a ‘joke,’ mentioned that a similar incident happened when talks of a fight with Anthony Joshua came about. At that time, Fury said AJ never wanted to fight. So this time, the former will take Usyk’s name as one to evade a match.

To prepare for the worst, what would happen if the Fury-Usyk fight didn’t materialize? If WBC mandated a fight between Deontay Wilder and Andy Ruiz Jr. turns up for good, then the winner gets a chance at the title belt held by ‘The Gypsy King.’

Fury can pick a boxer to go against if the fight doesn’t occur. At the other corner, ‘The Cat’ will have to defend existing titles against all mandated challengers. Starting with Daniel Dubois for WBA, Jame Joyce for WBO, and finally, Filip Hrgovic for IBF.
