Is Ohara Davies dodging Adam Azim, or is he right to dismiss the fight talks?

In the absence of concrete updates about upcoming matchups, it’s been seen rumor mills often work overtime to fill the void. While this can fuel fan excitement, it also leads to some wild conjectures. A similar sort of situation, it seems, has occurred in boxer Ohara Davies‘ case. The 32-year-old found himself bewildered as he came across a news report of a potential lineup, about which he had no prior knowledge.

The Hackney, London-born boxer last fought Ismael Barroso on the Vergil Ortiz Jr.Fredrick Lawson card. Unfortunately, the bout ended unfavorably for him. The twelve-round battle for the WBA interim light welterweight title ended as soon as it began. It was the third career loss for Ohara Davies. Ever since there hasn’t been any clarity against whom Davies would be going next. Chancing upon the report, ‘Two Tanks’ wasted no time to launch a riposte and make his stand clear.

@NoSmokeBoxing shared a post, “An announcement on Adam Azim’s next fight is now imminent, with Ohara Davies being rumored as the potential opponent for October 19th!” However, urging the channel to ‘stop spreading fake news’, Ohara Davies revealed that it was the first time he was coming across such an update.

This is what I mean about the boxing media,” Ohara Davies concluded. Upon close review, there seems to be no credible news report suggesting a matchup between Davies and Adam Azim. However, Azim did tease a forthcoming fight announcement on his social media. “Fight announcement dropping soon!” he said through an Instagram post five days ago.

‘The Assassin’ became a European champion last November. He defended his title in a very dominant fashion early in February this year. Getting back to Ohara Davies, before he met Barroso, ‘Two Tanks’ was riding high on the ninth-round knockout win over Lewis Ritson. The Venezuelan on the other end was coming off the controversial loss to Rolando Romero. However, intending to make the most of the second chance, Barroso knocked down Davies in the first round itself.

Nevertheless, Ohara Davies took full ownership of the loss. Reaching out to fans, in a tweet he said, “Some people are making slight excuses for me; there are no excuses; I got caught with a great shot after overreaching; at this level, you can’t afford to make those types of mistakes; it was meant to be Barroso night on Saturday, and I applaud him.

However, in a subsequent post, ‘Two Tanks’ made his intentions clear. He emphasized that despite the loss, he was determined to compete at the highest levels. So instead of going through tune-up fights, he would rather chase the likes of Regis Prograis or Jose Carlos Ramirez. Davies mentioned a possible return in May. But he stressed that if he couldn’t fight the best, then it may be time for him to step aside and let young boxers, like Adam Azam or Dalton Smith, take the spotlight.
