His Excellency Turki Alalshikh is like a boxing genie. He is making fans’ wishes come true by making dream fights possible and fighters’ wishes true by providing them whopping prize money to fight under the Riyadh Season banner. It seems the Saudi Royal will do everything to see the fights that he desires, including blowing away money without worry.
2024 was a testament to that when the top 3 earners in boxing were all Riyadh Season fighters. Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk even broke the $100 million mark reportedly. However, Canelo Alvarez was a surprise exclusion from that list. It looks like he won’t let it happen again. Rumors have started spreading that the Mexican champion might collect the highest payday of his career in his first fight under the Riyadh Season banner against Terence Crawford.

Well-known online boxing commentator, Ray Jackson, took to his ‘X’ to state that Canelo Alvarez will earn $150 million in his September 2025 fight against Bud Crawford. He wrote, “Canelo Alvarez is getting $150M guarantee to fight Crawford 👀😳💰,” in the captions above a post from Ring Magazine that revealed that the talks regarding the fight are progressing smoothly.

If the negotiations are progressing smoothly, then a rumored $150 million payout will easily surpass both Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk’s earnings from 2024, both of whom earned $105 million and $114 million combined in their two fights last year. Brunch Boxing also lit fire under the rumors and claimed, “💰Canelo was reportedly promised over nine figures for the bout.”
The 62-2-2 boxer had earlier demanded the enormous sum for the fight to take place. In 2024, Canelo even demanded a $200 million purse to fight David Benavidez, which later came down to $150 million. As expected, Benavidez and his team rejected the demand, and the ‘Mexican Monster’ moved up to the 175 lbs division seeking newer opportunities.
However, it looks like this time His Excellency is going to fulfill the unified super middleweight champion’s demand and make him possibly the highest-paid boxer of 2025. So far, there have been no reports or rumors regarding Terence Crawford’s expected earnings from this fight. But if Canelo Alvarez’s demands are being met, we can safely assume that the Omaha native will likely earn his highest payday to date with the potential fight.
It also looks like we are just a few days away from the official date announcement of the bout. ESPN reported that the duo has almost completed the negotiation and is ready to decide the date.
Mexican Independence Day weekend being finalized
In a conversation with Brunch Boxing, Canelo’s longtime trainer and manager, Eddy Reynoso claimed that if his fighter gets everything that was promised by His Excellency, the bout will take place in 3rd week of September.

Later, during ESPN’s State Of Boxing show, Bernardo Osuna and Mike Coppinger reported that both sides are locking the Mexican Independence Day weekend in Las Vegas as the potential fight date, implying that His Excellency may have already accepted and fulfilled Canelo Alvarez’s demands.
Osuna further suggested that the fight would happen at 168 lbs with no rehydration clause. It will mark Terence Crawford’s debut in his fifth division. Given the circumstances, it might not be wrong to say that this fight will be the biggest that Las Vegas has ever seen.
