A few weeks ago, former UFC dual champion Conor McGregor took to social media to announce a potential exhibition boxing match against YouTuber-turned-wrestler Logan Paul. McGregor claimed the fight would take place in India, with backing from the immensely wealthy Ambani family. Meanwhile, certain sources on the internet have dropped more details about the fight.

A source by the name of Ghazi Twaissi claimed on X that a unanimous tip suggested that the UFC, McGregor’s promoter, is probably involved in the negotiations of the fight along with KSI’s Misfits Boxing. Since McGregor still has two fights left with the promotion, the fight could not have been possible without a blessing from them. Meanwhile, Paul is signed with WWE, which is under TKO Holdings, the parent company of the UFC as well.

India, with its growing interest in combat sports and the immense popularity of both McGregor and Paul, seems like a logical venue for UFC President Dana White to green-light the bout. But why is Misfits Boxing, rather than a more established boxing promotion? Here’s a plausible theory the source posited.

Logan Paul and his business partner KSI recently visited India, where they reportedly met with the Ambani family. It’s conceivable that during this meeting, a deal for the fight was struck. Reports suggest the Ambanis aim to boost tourism in India, and hosting a high-profile boxing match could be part of that strategy.

As for who would host the event, the UFC, primarily an MMA organization, is unlikely to veer into boxing promotions. Similarly, WWE—focused on wrestling—would find it unconventional to host a one-off boxing match. This leaves Misfits Boxing, a promotion with a strong relationship with both Logan Paul and Dana White’s UFC.

Given Misfits’ track record and frequent promotion of Paul and KSI’s Prime brand, it appears to be the perfect platform for the bout. Furthermore, since Prime is one of the sponsors for the UFC, allowing Conor McGregor to fight Logan Paul would offer little advantage to any of Dana White’s competitors. While it could introduce McGregor to a broader audience, which benefits the UFC, it also aligns with White’s past decision to let McGregor face Floyd Mayweather.

Given this precedent, a McGregor-Paul matchup spearheaded by UFC and Misfits Boxing seems like a logical next step. However, former UFC fighter Chael Sonnen isn’t buying any of it!

Chael Sonnen claims Conor McGregor vs. Logan Paul is a ‘lie’

Chael Sonnen has called out Conor McGregor’s claim of an exhibition boxing match against Logan Paul, labeling it a lie. “Not a single word is true,” Sonnen said on his YouTube channel. He explained that events like these are usually organized by governments, not billionaires. And that there’s no interest in India in using a boxing match to boost tourism.

Sonnen also pointed out that McGregor is still under UFC contract, making it unlikely that he would be able to box Paul without the promotion’s approval. He further dismissed the reported $250 million payout for McGregor to fight Paul, stating, “There’s no cheque for $250 million dollars so, he kind of went right down the list of joking. He’s kidding.”

That being said, even though more details about the fight have come out from Misfits News, nothing has been officially announced yet. Plus, Misfits hosting the fight is just a theory floating around on the internet—there’s nothing concrete in it. But do you think it’s possible?
