One of the most interesting Lightweight contests back in 2021 was the fight between Teofimo Lopez and George Kambosos Jr. Both fighters were the creme de la creme at that time, as Lopez was coming off a strong unanimous decision against the former 3-division champion, Vasyl Lomachenko. While Kambosos was the undefeated rising star of the division. Lopez was the unified Lightweight Champion, while Kambosos was the IBF mandatory challenger. So, after the end of the bout, Kambosos secured victory and became the Undisputed champion.

Later, he lost his titles against Devin Haney by two consecutive unanimous decisions. But regardless of everything, their fight was an enthralling spectacle, and many fans want to see it happen again quite soon. And recently, a famous boxing promoter has shed light on this topic and given hope to boxing fans.

Recently, the Australian fighter signed a multi-fight co-promotional contract with Bob Arum’s Top Rank. And in his scheduling, his first has already been announced. But still, his longtime promoter, Lou DiBella, talked about one of the most anticipated fights in Kambosos’s upcoming career, which is his rematch against Teofimo Lopez. So, in his recent conversation with BoxingScene.com, he revealed the chances of that fight happening.

DiBella said, “I think it’s inevitable at some point. There was a lot of passion going into that fight, and there was a lot of passion coming out of that fight.” So the legendary promoter seemed very confident about their rematch and stated that it was too good a bout not to happen again. Well, if that happens, either Kambosos will have to move up to 140 or Lopez will have to drop down to 135 again. But DiBella has stated that in the future, a weight jump will be an available option for ‘Ferocious’.

But as of now, there are no official statements regarding the fight between the two. Mostly because Kambosos is riled up with his upcoming first fight under the new contract with Top Rank. The fight is going to take place tomorrow night in Shawnee, Oklahoma. So, the Lopez rematch may possibly come to fruition after this bout is done.

Just a few hours ago, George Kambosos Jr. and Maxi Hughes concluded the Weigh-In event. So for the 135-pound bout, Kambosos weighed at the scale 134.6 lbs, while Hughes made 134.7 lbs. Kambosos is trying to redeem his consecutive losses against Devin Haney. And Maxi Hughes hasn’t lost a fight since his defeat in 2019. So he’s currently riding a seven-game winning streak.

Undoubtedly, this will be a real challenge for Kambosos, especially when he’s trying to seek redemption. Moreover, it’s the best time to make a comeback, as Kambosos predicted that many Lightweight titles will be “vacant” soon. The promoter, DiBella, had this to say about the fight: “Maxi Hughes is a very good boxer… Look at who he beat and who he wasn’t supposed to beat. He’s a good fighter. It’s a ballsy comeback fight for George.” So it’s apparent that it’ll definitely be an interesting fight to watch on Sunday night.
