The boxing gods have spoken, and it’s a mouth-watering fight between Jose Ramirez and Arnold Barboza that fans will witness soon. It seems two fighters, who recently jumped ships from Top Rank to Golden Boy Promotions, will collide with each other. While one endeavors to reclaim the gold, the other wants the world to take notice of him. But when and where will this contest be staged?

ESPN’s Mike Coppinger turned to his X handle and broke the news that Ramirez, 31, and Barboza, 32, would go against each other. In addition, the fans will have to tune into DAZN to stream the exciting fight live, which will be marketed as a main event. And if you think that’s all there is to the news, you might be wrong. The fight will make its way to the fight capital of the world, Las Vegas!

Coppinger wrote, “Jose Ramirez and Arnold Barboza are finalizing a deal for a junior welterweight fight on Sept. 28 in Las Vegas, sources told ESPN. Golden Boy, which recently signed both fighters, will stage the fight as a DAZN main event.”

Notably, Ramirez, at 29-1, had a lucrative offer on the table from Bob Arum earlier this year to renew his contract and have a go at Teofimo Lopez and another crack at gold. All with a guaranteed purse of $2 million. However, in a move that shocked the boxing world, the former unified champion decided to end his 12-year-long partnership with Top Rank and rather decided to join hands with Oscar De La Hoya.

Currently, the move doesn’t invoke a lot of confidence among fans and pundits, who have expressed their concerns over Ramirez’s activity in recent years. What’s more? ‘Jaguar’ facing Barboza might be a bad look on his resume, as the latter is coming off a controversial victory against Sean McComb, which many believed he lost. So, has Ramirez committed a mistake by shifting his allegiance? Only time will tell. But Arum has already painted the blame on the American boxer’s manager.

When asked about the loss of one of his beloved fighters, the 92-year-old scathingly told BoxingScene, “You gotta ask his manager.” He pointed out how managers who didn’t understand the business swayed the fighters and didn’t know what they were doing. Despite the split, Arum had no lost love for Ramirez, as he called him a “wonderful young man.”

Ramirez is trying to be more active in a bid to reclaim his titles, as he has already fought once earlier this year in a comprehensive win over Rances Barthelemy. A win over Barboza Jr. might put him back into the title conversation. But the question remains. Will De La Hoya be able to secure him a title shot?
