It has been a while since Caleb Plant stepped inside the boxing ring and put on a show for fans. However, it now seems their wait is finally over, as he has a new fight date! The American boxer returns on a stacked undercard and will try to make a statement that he still belongs among the elites in the 168-pound division. So, when and where does he fight?
Initially, Plant, 32, had booked a date with Trevor McCumby and was rearing to step inside the ring on August 17. Everything was in motion for him to push himself back into title conversation, as the high-octane fight also had the WBA interim super middleweight title on the line. But the non-PPV fight on Amazon Prime had to be rescheduled after McCumby, 31, suffered a cut in the training and prolonged ‘Sweethands’ return. Now, the news has been floated that they have a September date.
Dan Rafael turned to his X handle and disclosed that negotiations were underway for Plant to return on the Canelo Alvarez vs. Edgar Berlanga bill. He wrote, “Per sources, the Caleb Plant-Trevor McCumby fight will be rescheduled on the #CaneloBerlanga PPV undercard rather than headline a non PPV PBC on Prime card as originally planned (before McCumby’s cut).”

It might be a better business move to keep Plant, at 22-2, on the same card as the Mexican champion, as it deepens the card and gives fans a better return for paying the PPV. In addition, it also motivates the Ashland City native to turn in a performance that will attract Alvarez’s attention, all leading up to their much-awaited rematch. However, McCumby, at 28-0, has different plans.

Trevor McCumby reveals how he will break down Caleb Plant
McCumby has never fought in a title fight, but he believes he is a couple of fights away from the opportunity. The main hurdles remain Plant, highly motivated to return to winning ways after dropping a fight with David Benavidez and then going on a 13-month-long hiatus. Not only does the Yorkville native have the skills to pull off a ring, but he also has an excellent game plan.
“We always prepare. We have a great game plan and we’re going to get in there and handle business. There is no quit in me. I’m going to keep coming forward… I just want to put on a fan-friendly fight, throw a lot of punches,” McCumby declared. The fans eagerly await the fight which might give fans the next champion at 168.
