Shakur Stevenson and Devin Haney—two names you won’t see squaring off anytime soon. It’s simply off the table. But interestingly, they share a similar fate. How, you ask? Well, just a few days ago, Shakur retained the WBC World Lightweight title with a 9th-round TKO over Josh Padley at The Venue Riyadh Season in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile, Devin Haney continues to roll with an undefeated 31-0 record in the Super Lightweight division. Yet both of their credibility is under scrutiny. Shakur’s recent victory raised questions, while Haney’s claim of outperforming Ryan Garcia in their April 2024 fight sparked similar doubts.

Fast forward to 2025, and an old video of boxing legend James Toney recently resurfaced. Filmed after Gervonta Davis’ 8th-round KO victory over Frank Martin in Las Vegas, Toney didn’t mince words when discussing Shakur and Haney’s potential fates in the ring with Davis. Did he hesitate? Not at all. Was he confident? Absolutely. So, what exactly did he predict? Let’s dive in and find out.

Gervonta Davis will end their night early

The multiple world title champion across three weight classes remained ice-cold as he made his prediction. His prediction? Only one word: “SLEPT.” But do you see it differently? How spot-on do you think his prediction will be?

Gervonta Davis has a history of dismissing opponents. Just last year, he brushed off Keyshawn Davis as ‘not even worth mentioning’ in a now-deleted X post. His attitude toward Shakur Stevenson hasn’t been much different, as he’s repeatedly shown little interest in fighting him. Beyond his undefeated 30-0 record, his recent workout video on X, where he flawlessly showcased his slick combinations and solid footwork, ahead of his March 1 fight against Lamont Roach Jr. speaks volumes about his abilities. Yet, despite all this, the 27-year-old has been chasing a fight against Tank for a while, but with multiple calls turned down, it’s uncertain what would happen if they ever face off in the ring.

On the other side, Devin Haney, who fights at 140 lbs and has a size advantage, doesn’t seem likely to overpower Tank Davis, who reigns at 135 lbs. It almost feels like a fantasy to picture them together in the ring. Is it not? Moreover, Haney’s mind is focused on his return, with a year-long wait since his April fight. With revenge in mind, he’s set to face Jose Ramirez, while his nemesis ‘KingRy’ will battle Rolando Romero for the WBA regular welterweight title in NYC this May, according to The Ring Magazine. If both ‘The Dream’ and Ryan Garcia emerge victorious against their opponents, the stage could finally be set for their long-awaited showdown. But as it stands, a Gervonta Davis vs. Devin Haney bout remains out of the question, regardless of who would come out on top.

Now, coming back to James Toney’s prediction, it’s starting to look like his words were prophetic. Why? Well, while Josh Padley didn’t directly respond to James Toney’s prediction, his comments about Shakur’s body shots could be interpreted as supporting it. On top of that, Tank Davis too, unable to hold his tongue, chimed in before the final bell rang. So, what did they say?

What’s your perspective on:

Is Gervonta Davis truly the nightmare for Shakur Stevenson and Devin Haney in the ring?

Have an interesting take?

The truth behind the knockout

After his fight with Shakur Stevenson, Josh Padley sat down for an interview with The Ring Magazine. When asked about his experience, he let the cat out of the bag with something unexpected. The Doncaster native revealed that the headshots didn’t bother him much. “The headshots weren’t bothering me. It was just the body, the conditioning for the body probably in 4 days’ notice,” Josh revealed. If the less-seasoned boxer is shrugging off Shakur’s punches, what’s in store if Tank takes a shot from him? Will it be a walk in the park for Tank?

Like everyone else, Gervonta Davis caught onto the 27-year-old’s trouble landing punches in the early rounds against a lesser opponent. The Baltimore native couldn’t resist and took to X, posting “Lol” to throw shade at the lackluster performance.

And even before that, a few days ago, in an interview with Jay Hill Network, Gervonta Davis dismissed Stevenson’s achievements, calling them ‘amateur’ and downplaying his level of opposition by saying he hasn’t fought elite-level opponents yet. He also added that the Newark native has not done anything remarkable for the sport of boxing yet.

With that said, do you also agree with ‘Lights Out’s’ prediction? And most importantly, who do you think will emerge victorious in the March 1 fight—Gervonta Davis or Lamont Roach Jr.?
