Fans were thrilled to see Gervonta Davis back in the gym, putting to rest concerns sparked by an earlier post in which the lightweight champion mentioned a fight had been ‘canceled.’ Sporting a fresh haircut, Davis appears to be gearing up for his anticipated March 1 clash against Lamont Roach Jr.

Davis shocked his fans with a surprising announcement: he plans to retire before 2026. However, he also hinted at completing a few critical fights before hanging up his gloves. Among these is the much-discussed rematch with Ryan Garcia. Remember Garcia’s bold “Rematch Me B**ch” T-shirt during Davis’ fight with Frank Martin? As Davis approaches potential retirement, some speculate he may focus on lucrative opportunities. This has drawn mixed reactions, with former champions questioning whether his recent choices align with his status as a top-tier fighter.

In a recent Instagram live session, Davis addressed the possibility of a rematch with Ryan Garcia. Confident as ever, he said, “I’ll tax that a** again. Tell them boys to give me $150 m’s. I’m coming.” Their first encounter on April 22, 2023, at the T-Mobile Arena was intense. Although Garcia held his ground in the opening rounds, Davis’ relentless body shots proved too much, leading to a decisive victory. Since then, fans have been eager to see the rivalry reignited.

But Ryan Garcia moved up a division and fought Devin Haney. Unfortunately, the fight ended in controversy when Garcia failed a drug test, resulting in a one-year suspension and financial penalties. With his suspension set to expire on April 20 this year, rumors are swirling about his next opponent.

While Garcia’s future remains uncertain, questions about Davis’ next steps are also mounting. After a year-long hiatus following the Garcia fight, Davis returned to face Frank Martin. Subsequent rumors of potential matches against Vasyl Lomachenko and Shakur Stevenson kept fans buzzing, but it was eventually confirmed that Davis will fight Lamont Roach Jr.

But a rematch with Ryan Garcia isn’t necessarily the right step

Perhaps that’s what concerns Timothy ‘Tim’ Bradley. While speaking with Steve Kim and Mario Lopez on their popular podcast, ‘3 Knockdown Rule,’ the discussion shifted to Gervonta Davis’ upcoming fight with Lamont Roach Jr. Although acknowledging the match as competitive, Steve Kim expressed disappointment that Roach Jr., a 130-pound fighter with limited punching power, does not pose the same level of challenge as opponents like Shakur Stevenson or Teofimo Lopez. He then asked Bradley when fans could expect Davis to face a truly significant test.

‘The two-division world champion suggested that Gervonta Davis might be prioritizing financial gain over building a legacy or winning championships. This approach contrasts sharply with other reigning champions like Oleksandr Usyk and Terence Crawford, who focus on achieving boxing glory and cementing their legacy in the sport.

The boxing veteran believed that Davis would likely pursue rematches with fighters like Ryan Garcia due to the substantial financial rewards they generate. “He gonna look for Garcia again. That’s what he gonna look for because that’s the biggest money fight,” claimed the former welterweight champion. He then elaborated on his point, saying, “He told us what he wants to do. It’s a shame. Because I want to see how talented he is. Like you guys said, I want to see if you are really that good because he has his fan base; they love him to death, but man, I would love to see him in the ring with a Shakur Stevenson.
