A week after Ryan Garcia‘s team sent a demand letter to Golden Boy Promotions, Oscar De La Hoya filed a public lawsuit against their own boxer and his advisor, Guadalupe Valencia. The lawsuit is basically to enforce their contract with the 23-1-0 boxer in the U.S. District Court of Nevada. It was filed in response to the demand letter that indicated the alleged contract breaches committed by the Golden Boy. The Promotion stated in one of their statements that they want Ryan Garcia and the team to fulfill their remaining contract with their banner.

The bad blood between Garcia and Oscar De La Hoya bred after the highly regarded Gervonta Davis fight. De La Hoya didn’t attend the post-fight press conference due to the death threats he had received for the past whole week. However, Garcia thought it to be quite unsupportive of De La Hoya. Well, now both of these entities are standing against each other for the breach of contract.

The Golden Boy Promotions still wish to continue their legacy with Ryan Garcia. They feel that this association will pave the path for him to work towards the World Championship title but ‘The Flash’ has different conflicts with the promotion and with his promoter.

The contract breach between Golden Boy Promotions and Ryan Garcia

Back in 2019, when Ryan Garcia signed the contract with Oscar De La Hoya, it was flexible as Garcia could fight on any network’s PPV. But it got flipped when he fought against ‘Tank.’ Their fight was broadcasted by Showtime but DAZN also bore streaming rights to it. Later they were also paid $1.25 million as an additional fee out of which, Garcia allegedly paid around $120,000 from his personal account. Garcia’s attorney enunciated, “We will respond to this gamesmanship and fully enforce all of Ryan’s contractual rights against Golden Boy as well as his rights under state and federal law.

According to the letter, Garcia  has accused the Golden Boy of infringing California’s seven-year rule for personal service agreements. He had signed the promotion in 2016 once and re-signed with them in 2019 again. Now he wants his contract to end on November 1st. In addition, the letter also pointed out that the Golden Boy couldn’t satisfy the Ali Act disclosures. The boxer is demanding to get reimbursed for the fees he had to pay to DAZN since there was no exclusive clause involving any streaming service in the contract.
