Former WBC super lightweight champion Regis Prograis is weeks away from his big fight against the United Kingdom’s Jack Catterall at the Co-op Live Arena in Manchester. In the meantime, ‘Rougarou’ has voiced serious concerns over drug testing by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association for his upcoming fight.
The duo will lock horns on 26th October, as Prograis makes his first appearance since his one-sided loss to former undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney in December last year. Regardless, the 35-year-old hopped on X a couple of days ago to claim, “Me and my opponent—we signed up with VADA… But I [have] only been tested one time.”
It’s worth noting VADA conducts unannounced testing at any time during the eight weeks before a scheduled fight at their own discretion. Regardless, Prograis continued trying to figure out an update on his tests, questioning why he had only been tested once, adding, “My last fight, I was tested six times.”

Prograis further asserted that he has always been a clean fighter, who would volunteer for tests “365 days a year [through] blood, piss, hair, whatever you want to do.” However, a lack of tests ahead of his fight against Catterall seems to have left him perplexed and worried about any malicious activities.

“I know boxing is a dirty sport, and I just want to make it fair on all sides. I want to make it clean. I’m not saying nobody doing nothing, but it’s kind of fishy that I haven’t been tested,” Prograis continued. This prompted the former world champion to call on the doping agency to conduct immediate and thorough tests on him and to disclose whether Catterall had undergone the same procedure.
Since this tweet came to light, another world champion has come out in support while providing an alternative to VADA.

Teofimo Lopez rallies behind Regis Prograis
If you have been living under a rock for the past few months, the boxing world is reeling from a pretty big scandal involving Ryan Garcia popping for Ostarine. VADA revealed this finding after ‘The Flash’ brutally finished Devin Haney during their fight in April. While the anti-doping agency had done its job, many questioned why was Garcia allowed to fight with drugs in his system.
This is because VADA test results typically take several days to be processed, and in Garcia’s case, his results were only revealed after the fight had already concluded. Regardless, responding to Prograis’ worries in the tweet, the WBO super lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez claimed, “We need @usantidoping [USAD] in BOXING.”

That being said, Regis Prograis seems to be on the edge as he fears something malicious is going on in the background. However, it’s worth mentioning that nothing of such sort has been proven. Still, Teofimo Lopez’s proposal seems interesting, to say the least. What are your thoughts on bringing USAD into boxing?
