Is Mikaela Mayer the future of women's boxing, or is Sandy Ryan ready to steal the spotlight?

September 27 features two highly anticipated boxing events with titles on the line. Starting with the first mega-boxing event—it is the return of the undisputed super-featherweight champion Alycia Baumgardner after a hiatus of more than one year into the boxing ring. After battling accusations of popping steroids last year, Baumgardner will be back in the ring to defend her undisputed title for the second time against the much more experienced Delfine Persoon. “I have the opportunity to come out with a great victory against a great opponent and make a statement and show the world why I can overcome. I’m happy to be here and to just be in this position today and tell people, ‘I made it through’,” Baumgardner told BoxingScene.

Meanwhile, on the same day, Britain’s WBO welterweight champion Sandy Ryan fights Mikaela Mayer. There is bad blood between the two fighters as Ryan started working with Mayer’s training team which made the American leave the gym and find a new coach. “I don’t respect her as a human being. I think she’s trash and she’s a grown woman and the way she speaks, it’s just trash to me. I will own you in that ring,” the welterweight champion said about her challenger. So, without further ado, ahead of the showdown, let’s keep you up to date with the basic details of the fight so that you don’t miss the action.
