Claressa Shields rejected New York, Las Vegas, and Detroit. She really wanted the Danielle Perkins fight to take place in Flint, Michigan—her hometown. “My dream is fight at the Barclay’s, but the occasion calls for me to want to bring it back home because of the history of the fight, the first women’s undisputed championship at heavyweight,” she reasoned. Coming off her third knockout win against WBC heavyweight champion Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse in July, Shields will soon enter the ring once again.
On the other hand, after making her debut in 2020, 42-year-old Perkins has been inconsistent, yet quite dominating. She went on a sabbatical almost right after her debut and has been sporadically boxing. All in all, she has had a total of five bouts. So let us take a closer look at the details of this DAZN event.

With the event taking place at Dort Financial Center in Flint, Michigan, Claressa Shields will come back to her hometown in approximately four years. The GWOAT will defend her WBC and WBF heavyweight titles while the vacant WBO, WBA, and IBF crowns will also be up for grabs.
The 56-year-old venue opened in 1969 is the home to Flint Firebirds in the Ontario Hockey League. Furthermore, the arena can accommodate 4,021 for ice hockey and 6,069 for concerts, plus 400 in standing room. The 29,280 square feet arena was recently renovated in 2020 and has hosted several college events and the Claressa Shields bout against Marie Eve Dicaire in 2021.
The undercard of the event will kick off at 8:00 PM ET, (1 am GMT, 5:00 pm PT), with the main event ring walks expected around 10:50 PM ET, (3:50 am GMT, 7:50 pm PT). The event will take place on February 2. The undercard consists of some interesting bouts that have divided the fans on whether to tune in early or not. Furthermore, the conclusion of the undercard may affect when the main event begins and you don’t want to miss that action.
While both the fighters are undefeated so far, their records are starkly different. Claressa Shields has been fighting consistently since making her debut in 2016 and is looking to become undisputed in her third division after the junior middleweight and middleweight divisions. On the other hand, despite staying undefeated, Perkins has only fought in five bouts in her career.
Apparently, the Brooklyn native has been struggling to find opponents. “No one has even wanted to fight me. I have only had five professional fights because no one wants to step in the ring with me. It’s unfortunate because I’ve got some skills,” something which Shields also agrees with.
This might be the last chance for the 42-year-old given her age and she will do everything to win. An upset victory over arguably the greatest female boxer in front of her home crowd will do wonders for Perkins’ career. With both fighters desperate to create history, it will be an exciting clash.
