Ryan Garcia never misses a chance to troll his rivals. With the latest Studio Ghibli trend taking over the internet, the Victorville native seized the moment to stir up some painful memories for his arch-rival Devin Haney. The two are set to run it back later this year in a highly anticipated rematch. But what happened in the first fight?
Their first clash in April last year ended in controversy. Garcia initially won by majority decision, but the result was overturned to a no-contest after he tested positive for PEDs. In the aftermath, Haney sued Garcia for battery, fraud, and breach of contract, even though the NYSAC had banned Garcia from boxing for over a year. Regardless, the two have since settled the dispute with an interesting agreement.

Devin Haney is reminded of painful memories
If Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney emerge victorious in their upcoming fights—Garcia against Rolando Romero and Haney against Jose Ramirez on May 2—their highly anticipated rematch will take place later this year, officially releasing Garcia from the lawsuit.
With over a month to go before fight night, Garcia took to X to hop on the viral Studio Ghibli trend. He shared an edited image from their first fight, depicting himself standing over Haney after scoring a knockdown over the undisputed lightweight champion. “This is up there with the hardest photos ever in boxing don’t cap,” Garcia wrote in the caption.

The post quickly went viral, drawing massive attention from fans, with hordes of people chiming in to share their reactions. Since the lawsuit, Devin Haney hasn’t been on good terms with most fans, so it didn’t take long for fans to side with Garcia after he posted the picture.
Ryan Garcia is honored with comparisons to Mike Tyson and Muhammad Ali
One user praised the picture, suggesting something similar may never happen again. “Bro, that s**t is legendary. We might never see [anything] like that again. The hype, the fight… it was gold,” the user commented. Interestingly, Garcia had dropped Haney multiple times during the fight, but only three were officially counted.
The next user also agreed, labeling the knockdown an ‘epic moment.’ “Gotta agree it was an epic moment in Boxing photography,” the user commented. The fact that Haney had dominated and was never knocked down before this fight made it even more significant.
Meanwhile, this user poked fun at Haney for suing Garcia. “At that moment, he knew he was filing a lawsuit hahaha,” the user wrote. However, Haney sued Garcia because of the banned substance found in his system.

Someone else praised the picture while adding Garcia’s picture with the likes of Mike Tyson and Muhammad Ali. “I’m not gonna lie, [the] photographer did a great job, but we can’t forget about these,” the user wrote while sharing pictures of Ali and Tyson. The image echoes some of boxing’s most iconic moments, with legends like Muhammad Ali standing over Sonny Liston and Mike Tyson towering over Trevor Berbick after their knockdowns.

While the next user also praised the image, this user had an interesting question for Garcia. “Goes hard, but Garcia, are you mentally back, bro?” the user asked. Garcia displayed erratic behavior before his fight against Haney, but he has since clarified that it was all an act.
That said, one thing is clear—Ryan Garcia has no intention of letting up on his trolling. If Devin Haney wants to put an end to it, he’ll need to win their rematch in dominant fashion. But whether that happens remains to be seen. Who do you think will win the rematch?
