Muay Thai, or Thai Boxing, is one of the most challenging combat sports out there. The sport got its attention with the increasing popularity of Kickboxing that’s when kickboxers from Thailand gave their Muay Thai style to the West. Muay Thai involves many forms of stand-up striking and other clinching techniques. Now many fighters from the West are practicing the techniques of Muay Thai. And one such fighter is Damien Trainor, who recently put up a Facebook post reminiscing his legendary ‘Rocky‘ type fight against Rungravee Sasiprapa. The fight earned him the respect of every Muay Thai fan ever.

The bout between Damien Trainor and Rungravee Sasiprapa took place on Apr 9, 2011, at Doncaster Dome. This fight is one of the most respectable bouts in the history of Thai boxing. As before Trainor, there was no western fighter under 60 kg who went  the distance against Sasiprapa. So when the fight ended, the whole auditorium was up on their feet as they had just witnessed the clash between the two gladiators.

Fans reminisced about the ‘Rocky’ moment of Damien Trainor

Trainor shared a photo along with the post that showed Sasiprapa bowing down on his knees to show his respect for Damien Trainor’s skills. It was the most wholesome moment of the whole fight. In the caption, he further explains his feeling of ecstasy when everybody showed their respect to him by giving him a standing ovation. And he felt it was a moment right out of the famous boxing movie, ‘Rocky’, for Trainor.

‘Rocky’ movie is the result of the blood, sweat, and tears of Sylvester Stallone. And fans are still in awe as to how he managed to create such a masterpiece of a movie.  It was so good that many fans still wonder whether Sylvester Stallone won an Oscar for ‘Rocky’ or not.

Trainor drew similarities in his fight with the Rocky movie protagonist Rocky Balboa. Everyone expected Trainor to be dispatched early in the fight. But, he fought a long hard battle till the last round against a skilled Muay Thai boxer like Rungravee Sasiprapa – just like Rocky Balboa did  against Apollo Creed in the first Rocky movie.

The fight between Damien Trainer and Rungravee Sasiprapa brought the art to Thai boxing life, in the best way possible. And the Facebook post sent the fans on a nostalgic journey, as most of them reminisced about this great fight in the comment section.

 

One of the fans agreed with Damien on his Rocky reference. He wrote, “Best fight I’ve ever seen live proper goosebumps I swear I heard the rocky music in the last round. He started so strong and powerful but when the tide started to turn the crowd was crazy“.

One of the fans praised the beauty of Muay Thai. He wrote, “This is why even though Muay Thai is one of the most physically demanding sports-it’s also one of the most beautiful of sports as well.

One fan branded Trainor as a ‘top fighter’.  He wrote, “What an incredible fight. Two warriors going at it, and the respect speaks volumes. Damien was/is a top, top fighter. 🥊

Everyone who has seen the fight cannot forget the impact of the bout between two extremely skillful fighters that the world of Thai boxing was witnessing at that particular moment. It was one of the magnum opus of combat sports, created by the two warriors in the ring.

Muay Thai world respects Damien Trainor for his performance even today

Some fans talked about how Damien Trainor deserves all the respect that he got for that match.

One of them wrote, “Pure class mate respect well deserved 👏“.

Another wrote, “He did that because you’re a class fighter bro.

One fan said, “This is what people dont get , its all about respect“.

And one more commenter pitched in, the comment read, “You certainly deserve that respect Damien Trainor 🙏“.

So, it’s safe to say that this night made Damien Trainor a legend in the world of Thai Boxing. He gained the respect of many in sports. Despite his loss, he gave a challenge to another legend in his prime, Rungravee Sasiprapa.
