Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez made history in the world of boxing as he became the two-division World Champion after defeating Cristian Gonzalez Hernandez by unanimous decision. He moved down to the flyweight division, to claim the WBO’s vacant 112-pound title and before this, he already held the WBC’s Junior Bantamweight championship title. Many would consider it an amazing feat, but Jesse Rodriguez wasn’t satisfied with his performance and wanted to present a better version of himself to his home crowd. He was disappointed in his performance, as he broke his jaw in the sixth round.
But despite his injury in the middle of the bout, Rodriguez didn’t stop throwing punches at his opponent. His ‘never give up’ attitude impressed a lot of big names in the scene, even Eddie Hearn talked about his ferocious attitude and threw some light on the potential fight of Rodriguez against Sunny Edwards.

In the post-fight interview, he was told that even though he’s now the two-division world champion, he definitely had to put effort to win the fight. Rodriguez replied, “It wasn’t the best performance, I’ll admit that. I got my jaw broken in like the sixth round or some sh*t. It hurts, like I could barely talk right now.”
He also stated that there’s a chance that in the sixth round, Rodriguez got punched in his mouth while it was open, and hence his jaw broke as a result. He admitted that he had to take some time to figure out Gonzalez but eventually he did and extracted the win. He’s now looking forward to fighting his next opponent, given that his jaw heals as soon as possible. In the interview, he showed interest in going against Sunny Edwards next.
Eddie Hearn talks about Rodriguez vs Edwards
A reporter told Rodriguez that there are many options available for him, so who’d he choose as his next opponent, Julio Cesar Martinez or Sunny Edwards? ‘Bam’ Rodriguez replied, “Sunny Edwards, that’s the only option. I think he’s been talking a lot, so make it happen.” This could be regarding the tweet by Edwards, where he got slammed for assuming that Rodriguez was talking about him in a press conference.

Edwards’ promoter Eddie Hearn also talked about the fight, and he’s now a bit skeptical about the fight due to Rodriguez’s injury. He said, “He did a great job of disguising that [jaw injury], and very tough to fight through it as well. But disappointing because obviously, he wanted to make that big summer fight with Sunny Edwards so we’ll have to see what’s next.”
