Over the past few months, the WBO welterweight champion, Terence Crawford, has seen a relationship full of trials with his promoter, Bob Arum. Although the duo hasn’t really stayed on the same page over a few junctures, things haven’t really gone out of hand for them.
Crawford is one of the biggest fighters on the Top Rank roster. And Arum is equally thrilled to align ‘Bud’ with the best at his weight class.
In a fresh conversation with The Athletic Boxing, Arum said, “We could make a big fight vs Porter, but who’s going to pay for it? There’s a limit to what I can get out of ESPN. And on PPV… Crawford’s never done anything on PPV. Nothing against him. It is what it is.” (h/t Michael Benson)

Arum has staged two of Crawford’s fights on PPV. One was against Amir Khan in 2019, and the other one was against Viktor Postol in 2016. Both of those fights didn’t bring in considerable buys. Hence, ‘Bobfather’ is tentative about ‘Bud’ on PPV.

Terence Crawford is definitely one of the biggest boxing stars, but his fights haven’t really done well in terms of grabbing eyeballs. Nevertheless, the Top Rank boss still wants to align ‘Bud’ with some stern contenders to generate interest for his fights.
Moving further, Arum is now looking to line up Shawn Porter against Crawford as it could change ‘Bud’s PPV stats.
How can Terence Crawford get enough eyeballs towards his fights?
Crawford, the undefeated boxing stalwart, has fought some extremely good contenders until now. Yet, he’s failed to get his hands on some hotshots of his division like Errol Spence Jr., Manny Pacquiao, and more.

In fact, a few days back, ‘Bud’s next fight was discussed with ‘Pac Man’. Unfortunately for boxing fans, this bout, too, couldn’t reach fruition.

In order to gain extensive viewership for his fights, the Nebraska native will have to battle the best of his division. Alongside Errol Spence Jr., Shawn Porter, and Manny Pacquiao, there are many welterweight fighters who could match well with Crawford. Hence, it’ll be interesting to see if ‘Bud’ really takes on either of these opponents in his next fight.
Do you agree with Bob Arum’s comments on Terence Crawford?
