In a recent interview with Steve Kim, CEO of Top Rank, Bob Arum announced that Shakur Stevenson would fight again in November this year. To borrow the words from Arum himself, the 26-year-old would be seen in a “major fight“. Although Arum did not confirm the fighter Shakur would likely face, he revealed enough to get boxing fans excited.
Ahead of his fight with Shuichiro Yoshino, Stevenson told Arum that he was the best fighter on Top Rank’s roster. Likewise, Arum has always felt that the boxer from Newark deserved to be with some of the biggest names in the ring.

In a recent interview with YSM Sports Media, Arum expressed he desired to see Stevenson vs. Vasyl Lomachenko ever since Top Rank signed the two. He feels Shakur, the no. 5 lightweight as per The Ring Magazine, is now ready for that fight and would love to see the bout even if he isn’t promoting it. “From the time we signed Shakur and we signed Lomachenko, that was the fight in my mind that I wanted to see. It was a little too early for Shakur to fight Loma at that point. But I would love that fight even if I wasn’t promoting it,” announced Arum. Later speaking about the “logical path for Haney” after the Lomachenko bout, Arum suggested a potential bout between Stevenson and Devin Haney.

In his latest interview with Kim, Arum reiterated himself. “Shakur is going to fight later this year in a major fight. Maybe it’ll be against Haney, maybe it’ll be against Lomachenko. I don’t know, but the fight’s going to happen,” declared Arum as per Boxing Scene. In addition, Arum feels that November 16 would be a perfect date since “Formula 1 will be on that weekend” and “there will be thousands of people in town“.
