Bob Arum Gives Major Update on Tyson Fury vs Deontay Wilder Trilogy

Deontay Wilder vs. Tyson Fury 3, the conclusive fight to a dynamic trilogy, is the most recent victim that fell prey to the coronavirus pandemic.

With Boxing matches already suspended and sports leagues around the globe facing similar fates, an event as massive as Wilder vs. Fury 3 was bound to be canceled.

Tyson Fury’s co-promoter, Bob Arum, recently spoke to ESPN regarding the event. On being asked whether the event will carry on to be held on 18 July, he said, “Clearly not. We don’t even know if the MGM will even be open by then.”

The event was set to be held at the MGM Grand Arena, which is where Wilder vs. Fury 2 was held too.

Carrying on, Arum said, “You could not guarantee the fighters that the event would take place on that date. We couldn’t convince them or ourselves. Where were they going to train for it? It just made no sense. You just have to take a step back. How are you going to sell tickets? It’s absolutely ridiculous to say the fight is on when the Brits can’t even get there.”

Boxing fans from across the world, especially from the home countries of the fighters, gathered to watch Deontay Wilder and The Gypsy King battle it out the last two times. Thus, it makes sense not to go ahead with the fight when such an enormous percentage of ringside viewers are stuck due to travel restrictions.

Deontay Wilder vs. Tyson Fury 3 to take place in early October?

While it is a huge relief that the fight was not scrapped altogether, Arum let the anticipating fans know when the mega duel will likely occur.

“Possibly the fight will be in early October. Al and his people are in touch with us all the time on this. We see things the same way. We’ll be very, very cautious moving ahead and pray this will be over at a particular time and we will be able to make smart plans. Nobody has ever experienced anything like this before.”

Hence, we might just be lucky enough to experience the final showdown to this epic saga, come fall. Even after that devastating pandemic has paralyzed work-forces throughout.

One thing that remains unchanged is that fighters spanning all combat sports are not letting quarantine hinder their training. Be it MMA or boxing, no warrior is letting mother nature’s wrath disrupt his/her discipline.

While the first battle of the war between the two belligerent heavyweights came to a standstill due to a shortage of time with no clear winner, Fury made sure that the same did not transpire in the rematch.

He promised that he was sacrificing all that he could in preparation for the rematch, and he exceeded expectations. Wilder faced a severely crushing defeat at the hands of Fury, as his corner threw in the towel in the seventh round, unable to bear the punishment that he was taking.

However, the Bronze Bomber did not take this defeat sitting down. Soon after the match, he promised his fans that he would rise back up like a true warrior and take back his crown.

He exercised his right to a rematch, and the clause remains unchanged. Whenever it happens, a final fight between the two will most definitely occur.
