Ryan Garcia at a loss for words—Is he dodging the real fight with Devin Haney?

Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney are at it again. The two boxers have been at loggerheads for a long time, but their rivalry has only gone up a notch after their fight this April. It added a new chapter, when Haney, 25, recently filed a lawsuit against Garcia, 26, for fraud and battery, demanding a review and adjustment of accounting for their controversial fight. That’s not all. Bill Haney is now directly engaged in a verbal spat with ‘KingRy’.

Devin, at 31-0, and Garcia, at 24-1, fought a controversial fight earlier this year, as the latter came overweight and dropped the champion thrice en route to collect the win. However, he soon tested positive for a PED and later had to forfeit his win, overturning his famous win to a no contest. But it seems ‘The Dream’ is not content, as he filed a lawsuit against him, seeking punitive damages.

A relevant portion of the lawsuit read, “Haney suffered damages in that he suffered physical injury, reputational damage, which will amount to millions of dollars, and emotional and mental distress.” It didn’t take long before Garcia turned to his X handle to react to the news and wrote, “No words.” But his post attracted the attention of the Haney family’s patriarch, Bill, who then unloaded a couple of scathing posts. The first was the response, “Dumb a*s.”

Ryan Garcia then hit back at Bill and mocked him, as he sarcastically threatened to sue him. The Victorville native declared, “Ima sue you for hurting my feelings with that tweet 😔😔😔.” But the Haney family lynchpin only pressed hard with his answer. He noted, “Pleaded guilty to the worse thing in boxing – Performance Enhancing Drugs. Then snitched on everybody! You can’t make this up….. Dumb AF!”

The Haney family head-honcho has been vocal about his son’s ambitions since they filed the lawsuit in New York. In addition, he has called the lawsuit, a pursuit and thus, a challenge against PED.

Devin Haney hailed as the face of boxing for going up against Ryan Garcia

Have an interesting take?

Bill, in a conversation with BoxingScene, lauded his son’s efforts to take on the issue of PED, which tarnished his reputation and eventually led to him deciding against defending his WBC title against Sandor Martin and relinquishing the title. He said, “Devin is a consummate professional, and Ryan Garcia has shown no respect for himself, the business, or the sport.”

“Devin is the face of boxing because he has challenged the franchise in many ways – by working with multiple promoters, by crossing the sides of the street (among broadcasters), and now he’s challenging PED use. This is all for the good of the sport,” Bill Haney continued.

Interestingly, there had been rumors of them running it back and fighting a rematch next year. But now it’s uncertain how Garcia will see the complete picture and how it affects his intention to take the rematch offer after this lawsuit debacle.
