Is Oscar De La Hoya hiding the truth about the Garcia-Haney fight's financial dealings?

A few days earlier, when Oscar De La Hoya came clean about the disappointing number of Ryan Garcia vs. Devin Haney PPV to deny the Haneys any more payment, everyone knew they hadn’t seen the end of this saga. The fans expected a reply from either Devin Haney or his father, Bill Haney, sooner or later.

Well, the fans were not disappointed as Bill Haney took to his ”X account to post a scathing reply to the Golden Boy. He called out the 1992 Barcelona Olympic gold medalist for misappropriating funds and accused him of not paying $1.9 million.

Bill Haney demands transparency

Haney Sr. kept this heated rivalry going by asking De La Hoya to stop lying to everyone. On his latest Clapback Thursday episode, The Golden Boy promoter stated that Haneys had received the payment they were owed. Not only that, he even asked the Haneys to come and check his accounts anytime they wanted. But Bill Haney denied all those claims in his tweet and stated, “Golden Boy received $1M in damages, leaving $900K unaccounted for. If you want, I’ll come over and pick up the $1.9M right now.” He implied the fact that he is ready to take on De La Hoya’s challenge and will come and check the books right now.

But the most noticeable fact was that Bill Haney mentioned that Ryan Garcia had cleared his account. He wrote, “Ryan said he paid $1.5M for the weight issue, but we only got $600K.” In April, even Devin Haney stated that “Ryan honored the 500k per pound,” and has paid everything that he owed. This implies that even though Garcia has paid the agreed amount to Golden Boy, the promotional company has not forwarded the complete amount to the Haneys. This is consistent with everything that the father-son duo has said so far, as they have always maintained the same stance.

Haney Sr. then demanded complete transparency from Oscar De La Hoya and demanded their rightful settlement. “Fighters and fans deserve transparency. Settle this the right way.”

Oscar De La Hoya’s shocking confession

Ryan Garcia vs. Devin Haney was a big fight for Golden Boy Promotions, and CEO Oscar De La Hoya had high expectations. Before the fight, during an interview with FightHub TV, he publicly stated that the fight would exceed 1.5 million in sales. According to him, anything less than 500,000 homes would be a major setback.

But after the fight, De La Hoya never revealed the official numbers and maintained silence. Many sources claimed that the fight had abysmal numbers, but there was no confirmation from the Golden Boy. Till last week, when De La Hoya tried to clear his name from the Haney lawsuit. He stated, “They don’t believe the fact that Garcia-Haney only did a little over 300,000 homes and they have been paid what they are owed,” stating that the money that Haneys are asking does not exist.
