When Tyson Fury defeated Wladimir Klitschko in 2015 to become the heavyweight champion, he didn’t know what to do with his life. Born to a boxer, named after Mike Tyson, and having trained from the age of ten with the goal of becoming champion, Fury felt his life had no purpose anymore after defeating the multiple-time Ukrainian boxing heavyweight champion.
This lack of motivation led him down a dark path as he got addicted to alcohol and dr-gs, blowing up to nearly 400 pounds, with his boxing career seemingly at an end. His spiral continued until one day a couple of years ago when he had a moment of clarity after nearly ending his life.
“I was on the verge of driving my car off a bridge at 190 miles per hour. I didn’t care about nothing. I just wanted to die so bad. I gave up on life. But then I thought about my kids and my wife, and I pulled over. I said to myself, ‘I’m going to get well,'” Fury would recall. And well he would eventually get better, coming back to the ring in 2018, and going on to have three fantastic clashes with then-WBC champion Deontay Wilder between 2018 and 2021.

In his 2018 run, we saw Fury in the best of spirits as he went on to re-establish himself as a champion. Just as everything was going swimmingly and ‘The Gypsy King’ was set to fight Oleksandr Usyk in the first heavyweight undisputed clash in May 2024, his wife, Paris would suffer a miscarriage, one day prior to the fight.
Needless to say, this came as a huge shock to Tyson Fury and his wife, devastating them. In fact, Tyson would not even be by his wife’s side (since he was in Saudi to fight Usyk) when she gave birth to a deceased child. “It’s not like a small miscarriage at the beginning – you have to physically give birth to a dead child, on your own, while your husband is in a foreign country. To go through that on your own isn’t good. I could not be there for her in that moment. And that’s tough for me.”, the Englishman would ruefully tell reporters the miscarriage.
But Tyson Fury is no stranger to miscarriages. His mother, Amber got pregnant fourteen times, but only four of these children survived. At age nine Tyson lost his baby sister Ramona shortly after she was born, and this experience would stay with him for the rest of his life. Furthermore, this moment when Tyson Fury was 9 years old is the reason his wife’s miscarriage was especially hard on him.
While we can’t pintpoint for sure if the miscarriage had an effect on his performance in the fight against Oleksandr Usyk, Tyson did end up losing a close fight to the Ukrainian. The question remains; will Tyson Fury step into the squared circle with a renewed vigor, using that same tragedy as fuel to beat Usyk?

Tyson Fury set to rematch undisputed champion Oleksandr Usyk on December 21
The stage is set: Tyson Fury will rematch the now undisputed champion Oleksandr Usyk on December 21st at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, after a fantastic first fight back in May. In their first fight, ‘The Gypsy King’ dominated the initial rounds, and looked set to coast to a win. However, Oleksandr Usyk displayed his grit and technical brilliance by rallying in the later rounds to edge out a split-decision victory.
Many fans and analysts felt that Tyson’s showboating was an indication of his complacency, which ultimately led to his defeat. However, this time around, the former heavyweight champion has vowed not to take his foot off the pedal until the job is done. “I need to be more focused this time and not do as much,” Fury told ‘Sport Bible’ in a recent interview.

The Englishman has opened as the slight betting underdog in their December 21st clash, with analysts touting Usyk’s high fight-IQ, and adaptability in-ring, as keys to his victory. But this isn’t the first that ‘The Gypsy King’ has been an underdog, having proved his doubters wrong in his second clash against Deontay Wilder. Will Tyson Fury be able to create that same magic again? Only time will tell. For now, what do you think of the setbacks Tyson faced in his life? Let us know in the comments down below.
