“Better Than Fury’s Next Opponent”: 53-Year-Old German Cruiserweight Set for Title Shot Following TKO Win Left Fans Mocking Jake Paul and Other Cruiserweights

Firat Arslan, the German boxer, has been around for over two decades. From 2007 to 2008, he held the WBA Cruiserweight belt. The southpaw has previously made three attempts at world titles, such as the WBO and IBF Cruiserweight. However, as far as regional titles are concerned, he has had some success. Two years ago, he became the WBA International Cruiserweight Champion. Now, creating history, he won the WBA Gold World Cruiserweight title at age fifty-three last Saturday.

Clearly, his feat is making waves across social media. At such an advanced age, Firat Arslan gets another chance to claim a world title. But his knockout win over Edin Puhalo on October 21 also appears to have benefited those seemingly skeptical about the current Cruiserweight rankings. Without much ado, many who commented slammed boxers—big names known to most followers.

Firat Arslan’s story sparks mockery

The following user, interestingly, finds Firat Arslan far superior and competent than Tyson Fury‘s upcoming opponent.

Adding further to the above user’s narrative, the next fan finds Arslan good enough for a 2024 exhibition match with ‘The Gypsy King.’

The following user picked Jake Paul, who also fights in the Cruiserweight division. Surprised over the 53-year-old boxer’s accomplishment, the user cited that, in comparison, ‘The Problem Child’ has been just keeping himself busy with shadowboxing.

Given that Anthony Joshua could be going for a third fight this year, the following user, taking a dig, postulates that Firat Arslan could as well be the former champion’s next opponent.

On a serious note, another fan seems wonderstruck by Arslan’s recent achievement. Otherwise, per his calculation, he should have retired eight or nine years ago. He has barely fought a world champion since fighting Yoan Pablo Hernandez for the IBF World Cruiserweight title in 2014.

Perhaps concerned over Arslan taking such a risk at an old age, the following fan mentioned that the risk of significant injury, if any, would be his own doing because he chose to fight.

Undoubtedly, Firat Arlan’s triumph is sure to inspire many.

Age is just numbers

The boxer of Turkish descent fought his first professional fight in 1997. After cruising through different German and inter-continental championships, he finally had his big moment in 2007 when he defeated world champion and Olympic silver medalist Virgil Hill on November 24, 2007. However, he barely held it for a year before yielding it to Panamanian Guillermo Jones a year later.

In 2012, he launched the first campaign to get the WBO Cruiserweight title, but couldn’t succeed. Early in 2014, he made the second attempt, and a few months later, Hernandez fought for the IBF Cruiserweight title, but to no avail. With his recent success, who knows, he might as well become one of the oldest world champions!
