After Manny Pacquiao‘s MP Promotions signed Isaac Cruz, head of MP Promotions, Sean ‘Viva’ Gibbons informed the public that team Cruz was interested in a rematch with Gervonta Davis. According to Gibbons, with the fans in the US and Mexico bent upon watching Cruz receive a chance to avenge his loss suffered in 2021, it is imperative that Davis vs. Cruz II is staged. Likewise, certifying the fights PBC lately delivered, Gibbons announced the possibility of Cruz vs. Davis II arriving in the form of a post-Christmas gift by PBC.

At this, while the boxing world still digested the prospect of a rematch between ‘Tank’ and ‘Pitbull,’ the WBA lightweight title holder recently compared his skills with Mike Tyson‘s. Doing so, the 28-year-old received nothing but fiery responses from the boxing world. Here is what he said.

In a recent interview with Funny Marco on the show Open Thoughts, Gervonta Davis, who is considered the modern-day Mike Tyson, branded ‘Iron Mike’ a brawler. In his opinion, although the former heavyweight champion of the world possessed power and skills, he lacked the package that earned him the title of a “boxer-puncher.” “I think I’m a boxer-puncher. Mike Tyson was a brawler,” Gervonta Davis said. “Mike Tyson’s got power and skills, I feel as though I have the whole package,” he added.

After talkSPORT correspondent Michael Benson shared the statement on X, several people could not conform with Davis. According to one, who feels there is little honor in rematching Isaac, “Gervonta better not be saying all this just to rematch Pitbull Cruz.”

As per another, Davis has not yet faced the top-ranked fighters in the sport.

Similarly, one stated that Tyson battled boxers fans wanted to see him fight.

Well, with that said, one must admit that since the duo belonged to different weight classes, Gervonta Davis’ approach to the sport differed from Mike Tyson’s. Likewise, while it is unfair to draw a comparison between the two, one must state that ‘Tank’ and ‘Tyson contributed significantly to boxing.
