Being added to that list is the Mexican legend, Canelo Alvarez, who’s now the fourth richest athlete in the world, as per Forbes.

Canelo Alvarez is currently preparing for his undisputed vs. undisputed clash on September 30 against Jermell Charlo. Alvarez currently holds all the belts in the super middleweight division and holds the remarkable record of 59-2-2 at just the age of 33. Besides boxing, Alvarez is also keenly interested in golf and he’s quite decent in the game as well. Moreover, he even participated in the 2023 American Century Celebrity Golf Championship a couple of months ago. In addition to this, he has another peculiar obsession, and it’s something that costs him more than thousands of dollars.

The Mexican boxer has been fighting since the age of 15, and after a good chunk of 18 years, he has amassed great fortunes throughout his entire career. He even has a tequila-based canned drink that he launched for his fans in the US almost a month ago. He has given his reasons that after his fighting career is over, he needs to invest in things that would help his family sustain the luxurious lifestyle they’re enjoying right now.

But not all of his money goes into smart investments, some of them get contributed to his hobbies. One of the biggest pleasures in his life is strolling through Mexican soil on the back of his favorite horses. Alvarez owns a ranch named Las Reinas (The Queens), where he keeps his 30 stallions. The ranch cost the boxer nothing less than $1.5 million.

The horses are also worth a lot of money. Some horses cost more than others. Similarly, some are also closer to Alvarez’s heart than others.

There have been several occasions when Canelo Alvarez has made the world known about his hobby through many social media posts and interviews. He and his daughter, Emily, have an immense obsession with horses, and for that reason, he’s gifted a lot of his horses to his precious princess. His horses are worth anywhere from $4000 to $15000, and their names have even been made known to his fans.

‘Spirit’, one of his horses’ names, was a gift from the late Mexican singer, Vicente Fernandez. As of today, Spirit’s is worth about $8000. ‘Espartano’ is another horse of ‘Cinnamon’, which costs around $2000. But it is expected that with good care and nutrition, it can easily reach $12000.

Besides them, there’s ‘Rancherito’, which was also a gift from another Mexican singer, Ezequiel Pena. Espartano is booked for his younger daughter, Maria Fernanda. While Alvarez’s favorite in the bunch is ‘Rio’. Besides the profession, there is a bizarre similarity that Alvarez shares with Mike Tyson.

Mike Tyson is renowned for his love of tigers and pigeons, as they had these animals as his pets for a long time. Mike Tyson spent around $60,000 each on three of his pet tigers, Kenya, Storm, and Boris. Tyson also paid their trainer a good amount of $125,000. So that they can be on their best behavior and not be a threat to the boxer’s safety. Besides the wild cats, Tyson also loved pigeons.

Reportedly, he still owns about 1,000 pigeons and has also spent thousands of dollars on racing pigeons. His obsession with the winged species began in his childhood. They gave him company when no one else did. He even threw the first punch of his life because a bully killed his pet pigeon. He described it as the “first thing I ever loved“.
