Is Terence Crawford just chasing a payday with Canelo, or does he have more to prove?

Terence Crawford has been the man who brings it on whenever he fights and whoever he fights. The American fighter doesn’t shy away from any fight or opponent, as he tries to put on a show and collect a win. The boxing world also knows how passionately he is chasing a fight with Canelo Alvarez. But what if it doesn’t happen? What will the WBA champion do then?

Crawford, 36, has very few fights left in him if the traditional span of a boxer’s career is to be considered. So, it won’t be long before ‘Bud’ decides it’s enough for him to forge a path different from pulling punches in the squared circle.

BoxingKingdom turned to its X handle and pointed out how Crawford, at 41-0, has invested his money over the years in real estate and businesses throughout his career. In addition, the champion also has a net worth of $18 million, which could balloon at least a million more if he continues to work with HE Turki Alalshikh. In case he didn’t get a fight offer from Alvarez, 34, he could retire with comfort.

The post read, “‼️Terence Crawford has invested his money well from his boxing career and currently owns a very large number of properties & businesses throughout the USA. Retirement could be next for Crawford, if he can’t secure the Canelo bout.” The fans then turned to the comment section and deliberated on the Omaha native’s career if it were to end today.

One fan believed that Crawford didn’t have anything left to prove, and if the retirement came today, it wouldn’t affect his legacy. They argued, “Nothing to prove honestly. He has done amazing things in his career. If he were to retire now, it wouldn’t change anything.” Notably, Crawford remains one of very few to become an undisputed champion in two divisions.

A user expressed their desire and revealed that they wanted to witness Crawford as the undisputed champion at 154. They admitted, “I’d like to see him go for undisputed at 154 and retire.” The WBO recently ordered the Crawford and Sebastian Fundora fight, with the latter also being the WBC champion. Therefore, two wins could separate him from realizing the undisputed feat in a third division.

Someone heaped praise on Crawford for not only his skills but also for his big heart and his efforts outside the boxing ring. They declared, “Bud has done everything right. He a great fighter but seems to me to be a even better man.” Many fans might not know, but the welterweight champion runs a boxing academy in his hometown, where children from the neighborhood learn discipline and boxing gives them hope.

However, a comment contested that it was a ploy to get Alvarez’s attention and earn a hefty payout. The comment read, “Fool is begging for a Canelo pay day. That’s just lame (laughing emoji)” It’s one of the most highly anticipated fights between two of the modern greats, and it’s one of the biggest fights to be made right now. So, the windfall for each boxer could be huge.

Lastly, another fan suggested that in the case of retirement, Crawford’s best win would be against Errol Spence Jr., who was not fully fit into the fight. They asserted, “Retire and his best win will be a crippled spence lol.” Crawford cemented his legacy when he fought Spence Jr. and also amassed a huge payday because of that fight.
