In a strategic positioning of himself in the combat world, Jake Paul has emerged as a fighter who holds a promising future in the realm. Having undertaken some of the most lucrative fights of the year, he counts himself as a leading force in the influencer-boxing sphere. With two fights for this year, outlining a third for December, he is a fighter who has taken the most fights this year.

His stint in the sport furthers the debate about how influencers continue to emerge in making a name for themselves in contrast to boxers who have trained all their lives for the feat. However, he does not just speak but delivers substance. Both his fights against Tommy Fury and Nate Diaz were one of the most spoken-about fights this year. In the spirit of it all, he looks back today at the year he’s had.

The influencer-turned-boxer accomplished something that hardly someone in his league had a year ago. In October last year, he fought against legendary UFC Middleweight champion, Anderson Silva. Undertaking such a fight in itself was an achievement for Paul. However, he went a step ahead that night as he registered a victory against Silva through a unanimous decision.

On the anniversary of this massive achievement in his nascent boxing career, he highlighted what he had accomplished. While reinstating his victory over Silva, he also touched base on his stints against Fury and Diaz. He wrote, “What a year. Beat the GOAT, dropped the Fury, dog walked Diaz. Back in 7 weeks.” An interesting year for the fighter indeed, but it was not all a glide. It came with its tumults.

Paul’s year in a nutshell

‘Problem Child’ opened this year with a highly discussed matchup against British fighter, Tommy Fury. The fight saw the two of them bring everything they’ve got into the ring. However, it ended in Paul registering his career’s first loss through a split decision. With a scathe on his record, but not broken spirits, he was quick to move on from his February loss.

Within six months came another big fight for him. In a massive cash cow of a bout, he went against MMA fame, Nate Diaz in August. In pursuit of redeeming himself from the loss given to him by ‘TNT’ Fury and reinstating his position in the realm, he brought his wrath that was all in his favor on fight night. Through a landslide victory against Diaz via another unanimous decision, he vehemently told the world he was back and how.

Shortly after the fight, he pushed the boundaries of his caliber yet again. He openly called on Diaz for a fight in a format the latter was much familiar with. A fight in the cage for $10 million in return. However, Diaz did not seem that keen to accept that offer. But a rematch in the boxing format? He’s ready for that. A few weeks ago, when Paul announced his return to the ring on the 15th of December with an unnamed opponent, Diaz threw his offer in the bucket through an Instagram post.
